I think it's awesome that you give the DVD to charity afterwards - very nice idea!

Its not expensive if you use the meerkat movie code although saying that the price of a ticket has gone up at Cineworld but 2 tickets for price of 1 isnt bad, even cheaper if you know someone with a Cineworld unlimited pass and you get in for free.

I've got 5.1, big screen and 3D. Lovely leather sofas and a nice clean toilet and of course the pause button- why would anyone ever go to the cinema?

I go once every 18 months.

Am thinking about upgrading to an even bigger screen.

We have half price Tuesday's at our local cinema, so it's £7 for the two of us

Never feel the need to buy snacks or drinks, even I can last 3 hours without needing to stuff my face :)

Although saying that, we rarely go, think the last two times were for the James Bond movies

I was under the impression that a cinema couldn't stop you taking your own food in??

I don't think cinema is too expensive. We go to our local Showcase, which is now a delux one. It costs £6.25 to go off peak with our insider cards. All the seats on every screen are electric reclining and footrest, with extra space in front, and a small wall between rows so you can't see the row in front. It is great. You can't beat seeing a great film on the big screen IMO. Other than the disappointing Star Wars, the last really good big screen film I saw was The Martian, and I would have been disappointed not to have seen it on the big screen. We usually go about once or twice a month.
Got to say, I don't often buy the popcorn at the cinema - way over-priced, but we usually stick a few sweets in our pockets to take in with us.

We go as a family. 2 adults, 3 teens (plus armwrestling as to how old are they really).

Not any more. The lads accept that it's silly money for a film they've heard the spoilers for & would rather have a takeaway curry & the DVD eventually.

(Not sure how they'll change when the concept of Girls hits! Still, so long as they go on making sensible financial choices.)

I wonder that the title could read 'Cinema trips have got too expensive' as for the two of us on a Saturday tickets alone cost £25. I wouldn't mind but the constant distractions of rustling from food and chatter, phone screens etc. makes it a poor experience. We have happily paid more at cinemas that don't allow you to take food in (i.e. they don't sell popcorn, nachos and the like) and insist drinks are in cups to avoid the noise of people sucking through straws.

I do have a free pass for a cinema that charges £6.25 from 7pm on Sundays through to Tuesday evening, their off-peak hours. Even then, I don' t use it very often.

Oh and I complete agree on food, I don't bother. I do sometimes take water in rather than be ripped off (old fashioned non-noisy screw cap though!).

What I resent is the charge to book tickets online. It didn't use to cost more.

I avoid cinema for the price too and although I have meerkat movies, it's only valid on a Tues or Weds whereas I normally like to go at the weekend.

I don't mind waiting 6 months for a movie to come out on DVD as it used to be 3 years 'in my day'.

Besides, I don't even need to wait 6 months if you know any good streaming/download sites.

However, cinema is a good experience though. Nothing beats the big screen and audio.

It is costly when 1 adult ticket is £10.10 (where I live) at Cineworld. The nearest Odeon is £5 for any film at any time and Adult tickets at Vue range from £7.49 to £10.29 depending on the film and whether you go peak or off peak.
