I often take sandwiches from whatever I have in the house (often peanut butter), a couple of pieces of fruit and a bag of crisps from whatever packs there are in Poundland. I would imagine that costs about 60p. I am pretty hungry by dinner but it's perfectly OK0

Lunch costs me a lot less than £3. Nothing to be precise.

I keep a drawer full of various crackers - own brand, much cheaper (e.g. Tesco own, 29p) and don't really taste much different. Spread brought on a £1 deal and lasts me a month or two. Marmite is probably the biggest expense - but bought when on offer and lasts forever as I just use a smear.
I buy the different types of crackers for variety (so cream crackers, dutch crispbake, Melba toast, etc.), and sometimes switch from Marmite to cream cheese or cheddar cheese. If I really fancy a change, I might do half a tin of soup and dunk my crackers in.
Main motivation is laziness/convenience, to be honest! But the low cost is a benefit0 -
Extreme. But doable.
I would feel very sorry for anyone who would have to limit themselves to such a small amount of money for food for a week.
It is when I read extreme tales like this I thank something something that I don't have to be so extremely frugal.
It is a challenge for some, a necessity for others, but it's sad just the same.
Foodbanks are available for those that need them. No real need to limit it to such an extent.0 -
HM soup can be made for pennies and extremely filling if you add in lentils, pearl barley or those tiny pasta shapes.0

Ultimately, if you bulk cook food that can be put in the fridge and freezer, it will work out cheaply over many weeks. Soups are really cheap to make, just make the largest volume you can. Bread is fairly cheap and you can stick it in the freezer too so it does not go off.
Making things with mince is another good one - make bolognese with various cheap veg thrown in and tins of tomatoes. Make a lot of it and save many portions.To err is human, but it is against company policy.0
