Evening all. Having a ponder about current accounts and savings accounts. Or rather treating current accounts as savings accounts.
Finally got round to moving £10K from my ISA to my Santander 123 account so I've now got the full £20k smackeroonies in there. This leaves between £3-4K languishing in my ISA. I can put another £1k in my TSB account to maximise the 5% interest and now I'm thinking where else can I capitalise?
I should be getting another £15K from hubby after the new tax year starts and I'm toying with the idea of investing some into S&S ISA but this isn't definite yet. I might also invest some into P2P lending. So as yet I'm still undecided.
In the meantime I'm thinking that I might open a Tesco Frank account and possibly a Nationwide Flex account although this would require me transferring £1K in each month.
I'm right in thinking I can just move £1k in, leave it a day and then transfer it back to where it came from right?
So, any suggestions to this idea?0 -
I thought you could just move the money in and out of the account again, I think I've seen it on other diaries, but haven't done it myself personally.
I too have to chase some customers for payment. I really hate doing it (and it irritates me). I have even considered outsourcing it, but so far have just gritted my teeth and done it myself. which reminds me, that is another job I need to do this weekend!0 -
I'm pretty sure I e read that it can be done as long as it is not just a transfer from another account with that bank. So a payment from a completely different bank is okay.
Glad I could be of assistance in reminding you!0 -
Another day out in Birmingham and I am shattered. There must be something about train journeys that make me tired.
Also, I've got a spin class to go to tonight and I wish I could just not go and be able to get in my pjs and go to bed. But I'm determined to take more action towards my health and fitness so I will go. Luckily I've managed to switch it from an 8.15 class to a 7.15 class, so at least I will get home a bit earlier.
I just want to sleep!!0 -

All in one go? Bless you, surprised you've stuck around. You must think I'm nuts
Just managed to get to spin class. This one was at a sports centre that I've never been to so got lost and then had to rely on my trusty gogle maps to direct me there just in the nick of time.
Haven't sweat so much since...well, the last time I went to a spin class. And after doing an ab workout yesterday I think tomorrow will be very uncomfortable for me. I'm very glad I went though - pleased I didn't beg off and stuck to my guns.
I'm now in bed listening to the Liverpool v Man Utd game (Liverpool fan before you all ask) and will probably start mooching around some sites about savings and investments.
Sweet dreams all :A0 -

Set my alarm this morning to get up for parkrun but when I woke up I was just not in the mood. I'd rather not force myself to do it every single week and the come to resent it so I've given myself the day off. Might go for a run later but at least I went to spin class on Thursday and I'm going again on Monday.
Had a total malteaser moment with my bank balance. It's been bugging me for a while. You see I transferred over £900 from my general savings into my main current account to capitalise on the 5% interest rate. That £900 plus my £100 overdraft fee rounded it up nicely to £1000. However, the way the balances read with available funds figure I couldn't tell whether that included my overdraft or not. Basically I wasn't sure if I had an extra £100 or not. So, this morning I thought I'd figure it out so I transferred the £900 back out for a few minutes so I could check.
And yes, I do in fact have an extra £100 that I didn't think I had, which is very nice. Especially as I only thought I had £100 until payday, which this month is the 24th.
I have moved the money back in though!
Plan for the rest of the day is not much. However I do want to juggle the last £3750 I have in my N@twest ISA into higher interest accounts. I will probably open a T3sco current account as they have 3% upto £3000 I think and it doesn't require any ingoings or DD. Although there was another one I was looking at.
Need to go research. Then I can close my N@twest accounts and be happy with the interest!!0 -
We've only recently started changing accounts - having had our main c/acs with the same providers since 1987 and 1989 (originally they were our employers) - really poor mse work:o! I plan on changing things around a bit more this year to benefit from better rates and possible switch offers

Yes, same with me. My dad used to work for N@twest so I've always been with them. Now I'm getting more savvy and seeing as it's so easy to switch and the banks do it all for you why the heck not? Especially if they're going to pay me for doing it!
I've also realised that opening these surplus current accounts will mean that I will have current accounts to switch next year once the headline rates come down. So, next year I should be able to switch 2 current accounts and get some nice rewards. I imagine we will keep the 123 account seeing as it's 3% on £20K. With the cashback on household bills etc on top it's something like £680 interest a year. I can't think of anywhere else I would get that.
Absolutely gutted though. Opened the N@tionwide account yesterday and then find out later on I could have got £36 cash back!!!! Oh well, these things happen and it just proves that I should be more thorough in my research.
Right, I'm going to get dressed - I've just finished my audio file, so I have been working - have some lunch and then I think I'm going to go for a run in the sunshine!0
