may I suggest you look at home plugs , both the basic type and the ones that have wifi , unless you are referring to wifi extenders as homeplugs?

buy from amazon or argos as there is a return policy with them.

I thought virgin had upgraded everone from 20 megs to a minimum of 50 megs?

basic home plug , plug one in next to your routrer and plug wire from router in , place other in office/etc and run lead from it to PC

wifi versions also emit wifi from the sender one and the receiving one , you can then turn off virgin wifi as well as wifi , you can plug a lead in as well as wifi

    example from argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4482909.htm

That's the sort of extenders I already have- one is wired to router the other two are positioned in the house. The basic just plug in ones didn't work. I can't plug my PC direct into the extender as they run on an electrical circuit and my house has different circuits in different parts of the house and my PC is only near sockets on a different ring.

I'm currently paying for 30meg and it costs around £30 per month. I don't have any other Virgin products in the house, no TV or phone lines as they are elsewhere, so I get no discount.

It seems better today so fingers crossed Virgin have finished whatever they were doing!

Different ring shouldn't matter, as long as they are on the same consumer unit.
    Move along, nothing to see.

The extenders don't work at all plugged in to a different circuit and I phoned technical support and they said it won't pick up from the Master extender unless it is linked on the circuit- and it does say that also in the booklet.

This is what I have :

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-tp-link-500mbps-powerline-wi-fi-triple-kit-with-passthrough-socket-a77uf?cmpid=ppc&gclid=CO6X-9eZ48sCFcfgGwodvA8KYA

and if I do try plugging the slave extender in upstairs it doesn't show at all as it can't read from the Master. I think we are unusual in having a very old house where two complete electrical circuits are installed.

I have fallen into the trap of being complacent with my broadband, it's become easier to stay and pay up rather than leave. My excuse is always that I am freelance and the organisation that I usually receive work from is known to be poor at updating information- I tried to swap to a Hotmail account about 4 years ago and they never ever managed to send me an email and instead just kept using my Virgin one. I am going to try harder now to switch to an online email account, maybe see how it goes and if I can get all my potential bookers to use that account I can then look to swap.

As for cables my OH would have a fit if I ran any more cables, he doesn't like the ones I have already- he was reluctant even to have Virgin move me to the hub system rather than use the old system we had that came in via a phone line.
