  • We are back from our trip, not a bad trip on the whole, but rather frustrating.

We got down to the Travel lodge just after 3pm, checked in and then shot off to Canterbury itself, very disappointing, it was £5 each to get into the cathedral and no entry to the precincts……..I strongly object to being forced to pay to visit a church, I am quite prepared to put a donation in a collecting box…………in Scotland Churches are open, you are welcome to leave a donation if you so wish and we always do.

We got back to the TL and had some supper, watched TV for an hour then went for a shower. Set the alarm for 7.15 and settled down to sleep….or so I though………….firstly a refrigerated lorry parked at the back of the lodge had a unit which switched on every 20 minutes…added to which I had what I believe was a reaction to my medication……..I finally dozed off around 5am………….woke again at 6.55am I was not sure at all about a day trip to France, but we went……………….

The train was full, and we were shunted onto the next train although we had a booked slot, we were almost an hour late leaving………nipped to Guines and had a root around Champion picked up what we wanted and also 18 bottles of wine. We decided to go to Franglais only to find the road Route Barre…………..so decided that Calais Vin would get what cash I had left………we had a tasting, I bought 2 bottles of very nice champers…………12 bottles of a very nice white wine and we got 6 free and 6 bottles of red and again we got a case of 6 free……………so a good day.

We got an earlier train back and decided that we would go to the TL, have a shower and a cuppa and then set off for home……..I could not stand another night with a fridge unit outside the window. We did speak to the girl on the desk…….she apologised but said that there was little they could do, the Police are not interested as the drivers have competed their hours and they cannot move them on until they have had the requisite rest period………we finally arrived home at 8.30pm. Having seen the queues to get off the M25 onto the M1 yesterday we decided to come up the A1 and cut across via the A47, a good journey and only 8 miles longer than using the M1.

Will have to make an appointment to see my GP, am not taking any medication for a couple of days and will then introduce one and then a couple of days later try the second one and see if was just a one off, or something I ate. I had the same reaction to medication last year, felt as if my stomach was on fire……………

I slept ok last night and phone the TL this morning, we seems to have mislaid our sponge bag……..the girl on reception has refunded the £30 for the room………..so result…………..on that score at least………..

It’s a dullish day……it looks like I am going to have to visit Mr T’s for new tooth brushes, mine was an electric one which is a bit of a blow….oh well…………..
September grocery budget........trying for £80, not sure if I will make it though!!!!! I certainly did not last month, lost track of the final bill. Will do better this month honest.

    Hi everyone :hello:

I'm back!!!! :j :j :j Not that I intentionally stayed away, but after our house move, the blimming idiots at the broadband company messed up our order and we didn't get connected until now. Ok, so last night to be precise. It was getting quite costly to pop down to the library, so I was relieved that after much complaining by DH we have FINALLY got here! Just before I start work again on Monday.............

We had a lovely time in France - very relaxing indeed. We ate far too much cheese and had mussels until they were coming out of our ears, along with the wine and cider. I think that our stomachs were pleased to get back to good old blighty! We're still saving up for our trip to New Zealand next year, so I'm going to look at Martin's Demotivator in a few mins. :)

I can't remember whether I told you all that DH has got a new job? If I have done so already, I'm sorry. He leaves his current job on 19th October and it can't come a day too soon. His boss is winding him up something chronic. Boss saying that he told DH X, Y and Z and why hadn't he done it? Only for DH to turn round and say (with backing from the rest of the department!!!) that Boss hadn't actually said anything of the sort! Fingers crossed that the next company is semi-decent!

DH and I are attempting to slim down and tone up - though, then again that's always my aim!!! Nothing new! However, we're not doing too badly with the healthy eating thing, thanks to OS and various GL recipe books (no, not GI) and I will weigh myself again next Monday with hopefully pleasing results. Just don't mention the two choc covered Hobnobs that I had yesterday.

    Bye for now.

DD starts school on Wednesday and her big sister is taking her away for the weekend tomorrow.

Her other big sister is taking her for a day trip to Edinburgh next weekend.

Decided to take her out to Leeds today and see a nice film together and maybe a posh lunch.

She gets two teeth out next week and then another two - ready for a brace to be fitted in a few weeks.

Have reassured her that she will get the same "fussing over" that her big sisters got when they had a brace!

Just nipping upstairs to get dressed - got up at 7.30 but just pottered around.

    Hugs to everybody.

  • UUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHH OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! found the sponge bag!!!!!!!!!!! We always keep a bag with two fleece blankets and two cushions in the boot of the car in case we ever get stuck.......I had tucked the sponge bag in on top of the cushions!!!!!!!!!Still if I had not rung them I would not have got my £30 back......so still a result.....although now OH cannot find his wallet....no cards in but his bus pass, so unless I find it this weekend he is going to have to apply for a new bus pass, as we get free travel its worth a lot to him. ..........gggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr its in the house somewhere, but where??????

We now have a full wine rack and 5 cases of wine plus a case of 24 bottles of beer.....................we do not drink much honest........we are hoping that it will last us until we go to France in April/May next year............it better had thats a bottle a week already sitting in our wine store.............

I now have a raging headache.................think I might have to go back to bed for an hour............

I have just finished reading a really weird book, not sure that I will be reading any more by the same author........am now out of books to read so a visit to the library tomorrow is on the cards. OH is playing bowls in a near by town tomorrow afternoon, so I have the afternoon to myself, will probably just slob........

    Cuppa waiting cheers for now..............

Hello everyone. I've been having a busy couple of days, so sorry for not saying hi yesterday. There's so much to catch up on too - hugs and good luck and well done to all of you ... if I listed you all I'd have to have 2 MS windows open.

I'm about to nip into town to bank a nice cheque. I had one of those savings accounts where you pay so much a month (£10) for 10 years. I'd expect at least a minimum of £1,200 plus bonuses plus interest on something like that, but my statement said I would get a guaranteed £973. I'd get more than that if I put it away in my mini cash ISA every month. I think these things are only worthwhile when you're maxing out your ISAs anyway, and think you should get the enhanced rates they promise at the start. So I cancelled it, got a cheque for £275 (after 3.5 years - should've been closer to £400 IMHO, so I rest my case), and I'm going to deposit it in my Barclays Tax beater Mini Cash ISA.

Mind you, I had a row with the woman in Barclays earlier this week. She was adamant that I couldn't set up a standing order into my isa. Erm, I couldn't move a lump sum into there because they were offering this massive 6.3% (at the time) and the whole idea was to make it a regular savings account ... Anyway, she conceded but said I couldn't set it up online. Why not? I had to open a telephone banking access code. Why? I've got online banking. So I'll have a word with the branch when I go in ... if they let me drop this cheque in ...

Also doing my shopping on the way home from work tonight, to save on trips in the car. My budget this week is £25 for just me and 2 cats.

    This one's especially for N9eav. 36_2_35.gif

hello everyone!:hello: belated birthday wishes to those ive missed the past week!

Sorry, but I didnt think I had anything interesting to post! anyway been trying to catch up with the last weeks thread!!!

Went to legoland last saturday and left my mobile phone there!! they found it ok so i had to go back yesterday to collect and thought i might as well give the kids another day out - BUT it was absolutely HEAVING!!! we've been 5 times this year but that was the worst!!:o So i am well and truly legolanded! in fact i think they are gonna do lego statues of us!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

PLUS DH gave me his car to go in cos its bigger - but it started smoking from exhaust!! he says its ok - but it got worse and worse! and it was not amusing sitting in the traffic round london and also getting into windsor with smoke bellowing out!!:o :rotfl: so if you were stuck on the M4 behind some smokey car - IT was ME!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

DH came up and swopped over cars for mine so the kids didnt worry about coming home!

tooks to the free gym session this morning now they look well and truly pooped!

pennypenguin - Saw you photo - you look really well Pen!! all that running/cycling done some good and the waistcoats were fab! Im Loving the "Darcy" cockerel name:T

catowen - How are you now? Im sorry to hear you were down - I knew something was up as I did ask earlier because I noticed youre posts were short and sweet. are things any better?? if i lived nearer i would meet up with you.
