Hi there  There's an existing thread on just this subject - I'll add this thread to keep ideas together

Blimey, how'd you manage to blow a Hi-Dome - had mine over 20 years and still in regular use (had to replace the seal once, but that's it).
I've now got a Tower 6litre stainless steel one which I got from Amazon for £40 about 6 months aga. No problems with it so far.0 -
I blew my prestige hi dome about 25 years ago. Thick pea soup all over the ceiling, what a mess!!
I have this tefal pc now. 6litre and with 2 handles. Easy to store and stainless steel and it works on my little portable induction hob, giving me big energy savings. I have had no scary moments with this

Just been talking about pressure cookers on the Avoid using Elec and Gas forum.
I am just wondering now, is it worth buying a pressure cooker when I do use my slow cooker quite a bit?
Our next door neighbour says they tried a slow cooker once and her husband didn't like the meat out of it as everything tasted like it had been stewed.
What is the consistancy like with pc food, say if I were too cook a joint of beef in it compared to a slow cooker?
Also, how long would it take to cook a joint of beef in a pc?
I would normally leave it for about 8 hours in the slow cooker which would only cost about 20p if that to cook. I'm not sure how much it would cost to cook in a pc cooker though if it was cooked on an halogen hob.
Are they worth buying?
I'm a full time mum so I don't need to rush about cooking meals.0 -
IMHO the only benefit of a pressure cooker is time. You can cook faster with them. Not sure that roast meat which I can get from a SC would be more like boiled meat in a PC. They are (or were) good heavy thick bottom pans, so very useful if you want to use one to make jams or chutneys, but mine has lived in the loft for so long now it is probably no use or would need new seals at least (if DH hasn't thrown it that is).

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
I have both but the pc is far and away better. The food tastes better and it is very very fast. I use mine (stainless steel) on my potable induction hob and it saves me a lot of energy compared to using the slow cooker
You can also use it as a jampot, steamer, for browning meat and then using the same pan for cooking. No contest as far as I am concerned0 -
Hi - I agree with Kitty. I have both a SC and PC. I rarely use the SC but the PC is used all the time to make stews and stocks etc. A 1kg piece if brisket takes about 40 mins to cook. A stew 10-15 mins. But no - it won't be like roast meat from the oven anymore that a SCed one is because it won't brown like in an oven (though it isn't boiled as such because you don't use that much water), though you can part cook a joint and finish it up in the oven to brown which is something I have been doing on the BBQ this summer.
I find that I am out too long in the day using a SC and the meat just gets over done. And I just am so bad at getting up in the morning that I can't be bothered to mess with the SC before I leave for work. I also find the flavours too wishy washy.0 -
I use my pressure cooker for doing pulses in multiple quanitities, as they are cheaper than cans of beans. A big bag of chickpeas, beans or similar can be cooked in under 15 minutes. I freeze them in bags and add to whatever I'm cooking. They can be thawed in hot water if you need them in a hurry.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. I don't cook meat and have a slow cooker that I rarely use (it's a rice cooker too, and I use that every week) and a pressure cooker that I use for:
- cooking beetroot
- making jam and marmalade
- mashed potatoes
It's my biggest pan so if I didn't have it, I'd need another for jam and marmalade. Beetroot and mash could be done in another pan but it cuts down the cooking time considerably.0 -
There are a couple for sale at Tesco Direct and I have some Clubcard vouchers to use (I normally use them for deals when on holiday but we are not going away this year).
Does anyone know which is the best out of these two please?
Tefal Clipso Easy Pressure Cooker £58 but I may be able to get it for £35 (shall have to double check the vouchers).
Tefal Sensor Classic Pressure Cooker £50 (about £27 with vouchers).
Not sure whether to go for one of these or not, can anyone who has one advise me please.
Ta!0
