Thanks pp. I've noticed that quite a few people find preparing the food for the sc a bit of a bind in the morning. A tip I gave my daughter, that she finds useful, is to prepare her slow cooker pot the night before and pop it in the fridge, this is easy done while she's preparing her packed lunch, then just put the dish back into the sc in the morning. I have to say my pressure cooker got consigned to the shed some years ago. I actually have 2 slow cookers, a big and a small one I inherited from my mum when she died. Both of which I use when organised. But mostly I forget to be organised and cook in the evening in the oven! Just need to be reminded occasionally. I'm lucky if I remember to get the meat out of the freezer that I want to cook that evening.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. I used to put ingredients for pea and ham soup or chicken curry etc. in the slow cooker about 11 p.m. so i would be cooked in the morning and then cooled and put in fridge for later.
I could not understand why a slow cooker that had been filled about an inch under the brim - was about 3 inches under the brim the next day.
I was convinced there was some kind of fault and was about to contact the manufacturers when I came downstairs at 7 a.m. and found DH polishing off some of the chicken curry!
He seems to regard it as the "magical cooking pot" in the fairy story and is determined to try to empty it.
The next time he informs me helpfully that he has "eaten up stuff so it does not go to waste" I may get nasty!!!"This site is addictive!"

Oh none at all TVT
i see where you are coming from
I used my pc twice yesterday. First I cooked a big batch of soaked chickpeas and it took 13 minutes. I air dried them and packed them in packets in the freezer. Later in the day I did a lamb casserole with the potatoes in the steamer basket over the casserole. It took 16 minutes and the potatoes weren`t at all mushy. I was experimenting so was very happy. I put various veg in including aubergine, leeks peppers and I ground some cumin and cardamon seed. I did enough for 3 meals for two
I have ordered a slow cooker from amazon. Morphy richards 3.5litre. £18.99 and free delivery. I have had two previously so know that they are good. The last one was too big so this is better. I think there is room for both pc and sc too.0 -
PRESSURE COOKERI have had mine for years, can cook a meal in 20 minutes using cheap cuts of meat, brilliant for making soup and also for cooking dried beans, they cook far quicker in the PC.
Can also use the pan for making jam or marmalade..............Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Well with the new gas prices coming I'm thinking I should buy a pressure cooker to help me save on cooking.I had a pressure cooker year's ago (scared me to death) but I'm sure things have come a long way since then.I had a Prestige high dome back then.I was wondering if anyone could let me know of one that is very safe to use and won't scare the life out of me(or blow up).
By the way my sister's did blow and it made a mess like you would'nt believe,it's also made me even more wary of buying without recommendation.
So any help would be more than appreciated.Thanks.0 -
Hi
I have a pressure cooker and I use it quite a lot, I plan to use it more now with the fuel prices going up. I used to be petrified of my Mums pressure cooker when I was a child, but I find mine easy to use and not at all scary, I think things have moved on a lot with pressure cookers, my young children are not bothered by it either.
I have the tower 12949 stainless steel one which I bought from Argos, but I dont think they sell this one anymore in Argos, it is a 6 litre one, I went for stainless steel one as I prefer not to cook in aluminium pans, but the downside with this is things tend to stick slightly when pre frying meat, but its not a problem, in argos there are similar ones to this - the most similar is the Tower Future 6l argos code 861/1666, which is pretty much the same.
I use mine for soups, stews, pot roasts, curry's, spag bol sauce etc and I have a book called Pressure cooking properly explained by Dianne Page which is a great book with loads of everyday recipes in and really good info in about cooking most things and explains about pressure cookers.
So, I would say definitely get one. We are thinking about taking ours camping to save gas and to ensure we have some great moneysaving meals.
I hope this helps

I have a Prestige Hi-Dome - though they are a little different from the older models now. The pressure control is a fixed weight (the older ones were three separate one 5, 10, 15lbs pressure), the 'dome' is nowhere near as 'Hi' as it used to be and the internal basket and trivet can only be described as 'useless' these days.
Otherwise, I find it works fine for casseroles and stews - which are more or less all I ever cook in mine.
ps - Jo, we always took ours camping when we used to go away in our caravanette and tent (back in the mid-60's). Amazing what delights mum could conjure up while others were 'roughing it'!0 -
Blimey, how'd you manage to blow a Hi-Dome - had mine over 20 years and still in regular use (had to replace the seal once, but that's it).0
