Lambswool will shrink in just about any machine cycle - handwash with liquid mild detergent , in tepid water, rinse well and air dry flat. Its actually quicker than putting it through a machine cycle. Lots of squeezing builds up your forearm muscles too!0 -
You put the jumper in the washing machine, then you put the liquids/powders in and finally it was you who hit the start button. Then you took the jumper out after the machine had finished and noticed what the machine had done.So who's responsible for this?you or the machine?........If the machine isn't prepared to go halves then i think your going to have to buy a new jumper yourself.Take him out shopping for a new one and i'm sure you'll both laugh about what you did.0

My wife has been doing it for the last 50yrs.

Been there. Replaced that after consultation.
An awesome pal took the felted sweater & made a pair of fingerless mitts, a chollo type hat, a beanie type hat, a pair of slippers, two covers for clicker type gel handwarmers, one cover for a USB hand warmer, an egg cosy, a Christmas stocking ornament, filled a pin cushion & made a tiny teddy bear.
I remained in awe for Years, but stepped back from doing laundry.0 -

NO - he should have washed it himself0

Make the shrunk one into a cushion cover or hot water bottle cover & KNIT him a new one! Much more MSE!0

own up to what you have done and offer to buy a new one, you never know he may have hated it!0
