A one call wouldn't have taken an hour either. I've got no idea how you managed to make it last that long. If you're going to say the time it takes for you call to be answered is part of the problem which made it last an hour use an app like WEQ4U where you don't have to wait in phone call queues, as soon as the lines free in automatically phones you back so you don't have to wait on the phone.0 -

Tell you what, the next time you're having a heart attack or a stroke, try emailing 999. See how that goes, yeah?
Obviously people's personal circumstances are different but to me losing a few hundred quid doesn't have the same priority as if I was having a heart attack or a stroke. Therefore I wouldn't use the same level of communication for both scenarios. I've never had a heart attack (touch wood) but I have lost money in a bank deposit. To resolve that I spent five minutes on a secure message sent through my internet banking. This resolved the issue within 48 hours.
If your personal financial circumstances are so poor that the impact on you losing a relatively small amount of money like this has the same impact on your life as if you were having a heart attack then I agree an email would not be the best communication method.0 -

I tried to call the branch numerous times before then calling telephone banking then resorting to social media then complaints.

My little quip was obviously lost on you.
No, my finances aren't that constrained. Don't judge everyone by your own standards.
The bank admitted fault and thus their own incompetence, but it is annoying to see an account going overdrawn despite your best efforts with no one taking ownership.
Anyway, thread gone way off topic with a number of pious individuals getting personal and deliberately missing the point. No wonder newbies don't like it here with people like you.0 -

But like I said on my comment that got reported and deleted. I bet you got compensation from the bank for the mistake which would have been a lot more than you could have earned in that hour!. So in the end you didn't loose out at all!0
