Returning an item due to changing my mind

Also, I would ask the OP for how long has he been using the stereo in the car until he decided it wasn't for him? My guess is that he's been using it for the last 8 days until he came across this other model he now prefers.0

Well the OP has changed his mind specifically because there's another stereo with better functions so clearly he can establish the functioning of the stereo without having to install it.
Actually I only established this after fitting it, as the manufacturer's (not the retailer) website shows the current model as having the functionality that I want and it was only once I was able to fully try the unit out and contacted the manufacturer for guidance that I found out that this model doesn't in fact have it.Which means you cant return it to the condition you bought it in.
Just because you have another, it means you arent returning the product as sold.
I see your point, but just for clarification the cage is a like for like identical replacement directly from the manufacturer.Suspect it's a bit of a grey area and that the OP is best served asking the vendor about upgrading options
Having read everything posted here, got more confused and a headache this is what I've decided is the best course of action. End of the day, it's my mistake and I fully hold my hands up and accept that I just wondered what the legal stance is in this instance...they could tell me to go jump, tbh, and I'd probably just accept it, sell the one I've got on eBay for a loss and buy the one I actually want in a couple of months when I can afford it.Also, I would ask the OP for how long has he been using the stereo in the car until he decided it wasn't for him? Now, two days. You would have probably been correct had the fob to my car broke and left me locked out of it until Saturday when an Auto locksmith could come and get me back in to the thing. :wall:

Sorry for all the multi quotes, figured it was easier than spamming the thread with multiple replies. Thanks to you all for your input and advice, appreciated. And sorry if I've caused any upset, it really was just meant as a simple question, I didn't think it would develop as much.
Anyway, I'll let you know - just for closure - what the retailer says and what I decide to do.
Thanks once again,

In other words you've been using it which would likely be seen as going beyond what is reasonable. Had you removed it immediately then you'd likely be in a better position. Now, two days. OP where you say that the manufacturer says it has features that it doesn't......this may be of interest to you (from consumer rights act)(2)The quality of goods is satisfactory if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would consider satisfactory, taking account of—
(a)any description of the goods,
(b)the price or other consideration for the goods (if relevant), and
(c)all the other relevant circumstances (see subsection (5)).
(5)The relevant circumstances mentioned in subsection (2)(c) include any public statement about the specific characteristics of the goods made by the trader, the producer or any representative of the trader or the producer.
(6)That includes, in particular, any public statement made in advertising or labelling. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Yep, exactly, which is why I'm asking the retailer the question but fully expecting them to decline or for a substantial deduction in any refund offer that they may (if they do) make.
Private resale and another purchase down the line, with a lot of research done before hand, is the most likely outcome. Live and learn.unholyangel wrote: »OP where you say that the manufacturer says it has features that it doesn't......this may be of interest to you (from consumer rights act)
Thanks for that, I'll include that I've spoken to the manufacturer about it, over email, with the retailer just in case that gives them the right to send it back to them and be compensated.0 -

To be fair, locked out or not the time 'using' it begins the moment its taken out of the original packaging. so the fact the OP was locked out is either here nor there...0
