But at least the real bakers have the blue zappers to try and kill the blighters!

    Not where I've seen

Perhaps one, stuck somewhere but flies and wasps will go for sugar first

I've worked in catering a long time. We have to by law have a "zapper" but we kill more with a swat :) ( that's after they have taken a dander across a plate of food )

The only thing I have ever had a problem with at both Lidl and Aldi is the bagged onions. I have tried several times, both white and red onions but there is always at least one manky one in the bag and loads of wastage from the others even if used the same day. I know I am not alone with this and really wish they would address it as I buy a lot of onions and it is a pest to have to go elsewhere when I can get most other things I need from these shops.

I use pounds of onions each week and I've stopped buying them from lidl, no matter how cheap

I prefer to buy loose and feel everyone before it hits the bag. Got to be firm and no smell at all. They last weeks when bought like that

Do you not have real bakers where you live? It's always a problem this time of year, flies and wasps.

Thanks suki, yes I do have a local bakers which I do normally use. What happened was doing shopping on Saturday wasn't going to get anything but oh said do you want anything, I thought yeah, I'll get a donut for later, he was going to get there veg pizza, which is yum. He came back and said come look at this, there really was loads of massive blue bottles, yuk.

Yes the flies, wasps are a pain just now. Swatted quite a few wasps.

Nothing really. Can't think of anything

I'm not keen on their dishwasher tablets, they seem to leave my glasses streaky. But other than that can't really fault anything.

I cut the DW tablets in half, (not easy), as I am in a soft water area.

Even though the tablets are 3 in 1, or 5 in 1, which have the rinse aid built in, I have read that the machine will rinse more effectively, by adding the liquid rinse aid, to the machine compartment, once a month or so. Your glasses will then sparkle.

Bottles of 10 year old port in my Aldi for under a fiver, RTC, good one to put aside for Christmas. This one was on the specialist shelves.

There was a new item on the Aldi chiller shelf, a microwaveable calzone pizza, £1.49 I think, delicious quick lunch. Sure to be a seasonal item!

I don't often have a ding meal but the Aldi lamb curry is heavenly, huge chunks of lamb in it, more meat than sauce.

I asked about the lack of RTCs on fresh food in our Aldi store. Ours is a busy store, and it's simply that everything sells so quickly that items rarely have a chance to hit the Use By/Best Before date. I suspect that most Aldi stores are the same.

    New item in Aldi...

Scottish Oatcakes with cracked black pepper. (They are a single combined stock line with the original plain oatcakes).

59p - way, way cheaper than any flavoured oatcakes elsewhere.

Will let you know what they taste like...

I just cannot get on with Nairn's plain oatcakes. I've tried them on the baby and she spits them out (she does this with no other food). Am interested to hear how you find them.

I have both Aldi and Lidl in my town. I heard that the owners are brothers?
    Tips

no, there are 2 Aldi (Albrecht Discount) brothers, one covers the north and one the south of Germany. From the logo they use in Scotland it's the south brother who expanded to here. Lidl is as separate as Netto, Plus or Penny from Aldi although they all stock similar products. ;) On that note - in my view Aldi's range non-food specials are superior but the weekly themes (Asian, Italian, etc) in Lidl I really came to like. I don't miss the weekend deals as I'm in town on weekdays.

I love a nice glass of port, providing it's not too oaky

Thanx Happygreen, I am even more muddled now (it doesn't take much). Mmm Netto? I only saw a Netto in Denmark, never seen one in Bournemouth. The chilled Lasagne from Lidl is the best I have ever tasted, when I am having a lazy day. I also buy Floralys ocean edition 3-ply loo rolls, pack of 10. These have a lovely scent, that wafts around the bathroom.
Onions- I buy the large netted pack, only had a problem once.
