I've not shopped in Aldi for a couple of months, so when did the Suoer Six suddenly become so expensive?
Just seen an advert on TV and the current offers are all 89p-99p each!
I'm sure they were only 29p-39p just a few months ago.0 -
I thought that the 'super 6' had been 59/69p for many years. I don't remember seeing them at 29p-39p. But, I don't remember seeing them at 89-99p either.0

Not so much a case of Aldi and Lidl increasing their butter prices beyond the others, I think - more a case of the others reducing theirs to compete with Aldi and Lidl. Butter, like milk, is a frequent purchase, and people tend to remember the price.
And it's milk pricing, coupled with people switching back to butter, that's caused the butter price to rise. Stupidly low milk prices forced large numbers of UK farmers out of dairy, and they're no longer there to produce the butter that's now needed.
Europe's now producing just about enough butter for current consumption, but that may change by Christmas, with a supply deficit, and an inevitable further impact on prices. No surplus elsewhere in the world to cover it, either.
Anyone remember the butter mountain?
I thought I was the only one who remembered that. That and the beef mountain. Did it not all get sent to the ussr?0 -

In 1974 (or thereabouts), people who were getting a means-tested benefit were sent beef & butter tokens. I worked in a local Supp Ben office at the time & well remember that the beef scheme was scrapped 2 days after we'd finished sending the tokens for the following 6 months!
Oddly, there wasn't a similar scheme to deal with the "Wine Lake"!!0 -

After years of spending an obscene amount of money in the likes of Asda and Tesco etc I decided to stop being such a 'food snob' and have been shopping in Aldi and Lidl and have swapped a few things from branded to their own - it gets the kids seal of approval so must be good.
Apologies if these have been posted before;
Aldi
Nutoka hazlenut spread(nutella)
Hoops and melts (hula hoops and skips)
Iced rings (party ring biscuits)
Gin
Split pot yoghurts (muller corner)
Norpak (lurpak)
Craze (krave)
Crisp rice (rice krispies)
Cheesy macaroni (cheesy pasta)
Stackers (Pringles)
Golden bread crumbs
Quixo (beef gravy/chicken gravy)
I also buy their fruit and veg and meat
Lidl
Sausages (cumberland, irish and pork) think they are about 85p for 8. Love these for making toad in the hole.
Danpak (lurpak)
Rice snaps (rice krispies)
Orangeade (fanta)
Tropical (want to say it's like lilt but it's more pineapple flavoured)
Frozen burgers and quarter pounders
Frozen square sausage
Kitchen wipes
Cien hand wash
Peach schnapps
Honey
Bbq sauce
Chilli sauce
Mayonnaise
Furniture polish
Cookies (maryland)
Bourbon creams
I sometimes buy their fruit and veg and I usually buy their meat too.
Where I live, Aldi is always heaving out of the two. I now tend to do one massive shop at the end of the month for the cupboards and freezer so tend to price match a lot of the time but the items above are the onese I have swapped to. The butter used to be a lot cheaper than tescos own butterpak however both have risen considerably the past couple of months but I was lucky enough to go to Lidl last week and their Danpak was on offer at 85p so picked up a few.0 -

The texture was definitely closer and less crumbly though, and I could cut slices easily for the toaster, so that was a big plus.
Unfortunately my tummy didn't quite deal with the high gluten well, although it may have been something else, I suspect the bread. I did eat a lot though, so it's my own greedy fault..
Anyway, if you make your own bread look out for the aqua coloured bags of flour alongside the normal light green striped bags. It's 75p - great value.
Follow the Aldi recipe on both bags too - it's a good one and the olive oil makes a big difference.
The ordinary strong white flour has now reappeared in our Aldi after its summer break. And this one's appeared for the first time.
The odd thing is, though, that the standard strong flour has a protein content of 12%, and the 'very strong flour' has a protein content of only 11%.
Does that make any sense to anyone?0 -
