I'm like you DIA in that I recentmy realised that I need to know I can trust my own word. When you can do that then you naturally feel more confidence in yourself and your abilities. You also have to remember when you do that as it's an easy thing to think "doesn't everyone?" And not give yourself sufficient credit.

I've only recently discovered that myself. I think I originally realised after reading it somewhere on social media. It really resonates as I gave up on myself so quickly before. Now I take time to think about things properly before I commit and again before I back out of plans. I am noticing a slow paced improvement.

I also thought it was blindingly obvious to all but me so thank you for showing me that's not necessarily the case.

I still haven't been to get the chocolate tea!!!! It's a special trip but I may go tomorrow if I feel up to it.

  • Hi there, I lurk on loads of diaries but never post, however just had to say how much I have enjoyed reading yours and echo what others have said in that you'd probably write a great food blog!

You have come a really long way, reading your diary over a couple of days it is easy to see - if you have doubts maybe try reading from the beginning and see for yourself.

I have subscribed and will follow your progress - good luck!

I totally agree with Islandhoppa, you've made massive progress through your diary. They're great for that :D

Fab that you have had your Oprah moment and noticed what you want to do differently. I have a bit of the opposite problem in that I have always hated dropping anything I said I would do and have repeatedly run myself into the floor trying to get it all done :o . MT makes an important point about thinking carefully to decide exactly what you're going to commit to and what you won't. It was a bit of a revelation for me finding that actually the world didn't end when I said 'sorry, I won't be able to do that'. Otherwise known as saying No, I suppose!

I think I expressed myself badly. I too do the same as you Rosa. I won't go back on what I said I'd do even when I should as I hate letting people down. I also say yes and later think no, but I still go through with it. I don't let people down, (well hardly ever) but I seem able to let myself down with great ease. It's as if a commitment to myself is less important than a commitment to other people...

You didn't express yourself badly DIA. I understood completely. I think maybe I expressed myself badly as I meant that I need to follow through on promises I make myself. I will never let others down, but I often come on here and say how rough I feel and that I need to eat better etc. and then do nothing about it! In fact, I'm so used to not taking any notice of what I promise myself that it seems to automatically jump out of my head around 10 seconds after I've said it. That's why I need to be careful of what I commit to and not just say things without enough thought.

I’m having soup for breakfast as I’ve run out of breakfast food. I haven’t planned well. So, below is my menu plan for the week. I don’t have a frying pan so I can’t make buckwheat wraps so I’m introducing brown rice. I have a bag of amaranth. The grain is fussy to cook with as annoyingly small but I’m using that this week too. Yesterday I visited a really good veggie/vegan restaurant and fell in love with their curried cashew cream, so I’ll be making that this week.

I tried fat free yogurt last week instead of my regular sheep’s yoghurt. Yuk. Not doing that again. I poured away nasty processed spray oil and filled bottle with olive oil. It seems to be okay. The bottle is 75p so I might buy another in Ald1 just for the bottle.

Ald1 super 6 are 29p this week so stocking up on fresh chillies (I freeze and grate from frozen) and broccoli. Buying 1kg onions and red papers from L1dl for 39p for next week’s menu planning as they are on offer

I’ll be cycling to the shops once the sun has gone down.
Breakfast yoghurt, kiwis, seeds and nuts

    Meals
    brown rice and raisins
    red beans
    avocado salad
    salmon
    spicy aubergine and tomato sauce

    amaranth
steamed broccoli and raw carrot ribbons
    curried cashew cream
cucumber, tomato and red onion salad
    toasted walnuts

    brown rice and raisins
    garlic green beans
    broccoli
    curried cashew cream
    salmon

    red beans
    boiled egg
    avocado
    aubergine and tomato sauce
    smoked cod
    quinoa

    salmon
    curried cashew cream
    garlic green beans
    broccoli
    brown rice and raisins

    courgette and aubergine curry with
    brown rice or amaranth

    vegetable stir fry
    avocado
    fried egg

LUNCHES: chicken, veg and lentil soup, omelette, salads or leftovers

That’s better. I’m feeling organised now. I didn’t each much yesterday so I woke up starving and maybe that’s the reason but the soup, for breakfast, was surprisingly delicious :)

    Have a good day :)

  • The Japanese eat soup for breakfast as do the Vietnamese and Korean cultures. You are in good company.

Yummy meal plan. What does curried cashew cream consist of DIA?
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

    Thanks Mila.

I haven’t made the cashew cream yet so I’m winging it. I’m going to soak the cashews overnight then in the processor blend and add lime and a curry seasoning etc and hope for the best.

Yesterday was a NSD. I didn’t go to the shops after all

I still don’t have breakfast food so today was a plate of kiwi sliced into quarters with a pot of coffee. It’s funny how there is food about when I look for it and that is actually quite a good breakfast ;)

Today, Usain Bolt runs so I will go to the shops before then and get prepared. I will prepare for a few hours, shopping, tidying etc, before I can sit down and relax, but these athletes have trained for 4 years for 10 seconds. Amazing isn’t it?

Have a good day people :)

    Hi DIA

It may have been me misinterpreting rather than the way you expressed things. I was thinking about a friend recently who doesn't finish anything, for other people or herself, and she ends up with very low confidence so she drops other things and it becomes a circle. I think that was on my mind when I read your post so I interpreted it more broadly than you meant

I think perhaps part of the issue for me is that I just don't build in time or things for myself as myself, iyswim. I sort out work and study and things for other people, but I don't have protected time to just be or to have fun. I'm going to work on that :)

I am in awe of your meal planning, as ever... :D
