It might not be too late to cancel the insurance claim if you want!

    This^^^

You were informing them for information purposes only, not to make a claim.

take a pic, side of car fro t and under

You said wheel pushed back at 20mph there isn't really enough force to bend a chassis leg after its bent the lower arm.

Damage could be/ or/ combination of a bent bottom arm, steering arm and shock/top mount. Check drive shaft too

He should have got it checked by local garage first. I assume no breakdown recovery. Now he has told the insurance they will be aware he has had an accident. Will this affect future premiums. I'd get it repaired if reasonable cost with SH parts.
Let me tell you a story.
My daughter skidded into a parked car yesterday morning. Nobody around and both cars damaged. However there was a business phone no on the other car so she photographed it and drove slowly round to my place. Her car has a dented wing, crack in headlight, scratched bumper and crunching noise on full lock though I can't see any wheel contact with bodywork. Conversation centred around telling other car owner and doing the right thing. The wing would pull out but not look prettty and whatever is crunching probably not expensive. Droplink or something? Headlamp easy replace. say £150 and back on the road in days? But what about the parked car? However moral responsibility prevailed and rang insurance. They will deal with other vehicle and will pickup daughters car. 07 Grande Punto in mint condition. Well was. Looks as if it will be written off and she will pay £300 excess which will be taken from final cheque and will leave very little to pay another car. Plus no courtesy car as a writeoff and struggle to get to work for a few weeks. Then loss of some no claims and subsequent premium hikes. That's the reward for doing the right thing. No wonder so many people drive off after damaging anothe vehicle. Mine included in the past.

What a self centered perspective. You say you are being punished for doing the right thing... more like being punished for crashing a car. And being punished for not paying attention when taking out the policy -- i'm assuming they didn't force her to accept a £300 excess. She should have gave the consequences of the terms of the contract a second thought before most likely diving in to the cheapest quote.

You neglect in this story the innocent party - the other vehicle, works vehicle I may add, which has been damaged through no fault of the owner. The owner whom by the sounds of it nearly had his livelihood turned upside down... what if he was third party cover? Nobody to claim from.

Your attitude is unbelievable, nearly sounds like you think she should in fact be rewarded for reporting it.

Why did you let the insurance company take your daughters car? You could have let the third party claim against your daughters policy for their damage and sorted your daughters car yourself. She probably wouldn't have paid the excess doing it this way too.

You need to calm down a bit and stop calling people you don't know names. You have also in your haste to denigrate me missed the point. The conversation after the incident centered round how many people have done this to us and drove off. We had no intention to do this so take your abysmal childish tone elsewhere. My daughter made sure that the insurance company were fully aware of who she hit and supplied all information plus pictures of the damage to the others car as she would not have it happen to her as it has in the past. My comment is on how the honest part of society that does the right thing picks up the tab for the scum that drive off.
In regard to the excess. On the policy it reads as if the excess is £150 but evidently this that is only voluntary and the actual is £300. I don't know how they have worked that one. I'm not knowledgeable on insurance. I don't know how she would avoid the excess if she did not have her car dealt with by the insurance as the other party would be claiming therefore there is a claim. The car is still sat outside the house as they cannot pick up yet due to the high amount of claims due to the state of the roads.

when you take out insurance they have an excess amount on the policy and you can opt to have a higher excess and a lower premium

so that may be £150 fixed excess and £150.00 voluntary excess to take a few quid off the insurance quote

if your insurance only pays for repairs to the third party car then you would not have to pay the £300.00 policy excess, if you claim for repairs to your car you will have to pay the excess

so if your repairs are going to cost less than three hundred pounds or are mainly cosmetic that you can live with then dont claim for the damage to your car

The insurers wanted to write-off my neighbour's car (old Honda Accord auto) due to a dent in the wing. He withdrew the insurance claim and is still driving the car 4 years later; still with the dented wing!
  • Hi .. me again! Well insurers still haven't been to look at the car, I rang yesterday and they said they was going to come take it to the scrap yard later in the day, I wasn't happy as officially no one has actually looked at it yet. So after some complaining they cancelled that and agreed to send an engineer out first as I stated I will be buying the car back if it's written off (Can't do that if they tow it) if possible.

Someone is due out tomorrow, can't get any decent photos of the car from underneath. Looks like the suspension is damaged (missed this before) as the front of the car is now much lower than the back when viewed from across the road looking at the side of the car, I can't be certain though, that's what my partner says.

But anyway this morning I received an email from my insurance company telling me that it's a non fault accident as money can be recovered. This worries me slightly? Is this because I cancelled the scrap yard + they've reopened it as another claim maybe? So the first one is now shut as no action was taken.

Other than excess I won't have to pay extra will I? And if it is because they shut the first down, is this going to count as 2 claims they can use to raise my insurance next year?

    Thanks

    Are you SURE about that?

Who would they be recovering money from?

It sounds more like a speculative approach from an ambulance-chaser.
