Clearly we disagree over the importance of details, but a deals a deal, we can let it go now. Thanks

I assume the cost of car parts would vary for older/newer cars.

    I'm afraid not.

Owners of older cars often complain that the cost of the parts they need is out of all proportion to the value of the car.

That's why many cars get written off.

Dont brake on a bend.. Brake before it....

Golden rule in racing, do all your breaking before the turn :money:

And if you need to brake, do that before the turn too.

If you want similar experiences, here's one.

In 2000, I came down a hill in Ipswich in my Pepper Red company Ford Escort 1.6CL (1998, R reg, with rear spoiler, electric windows and an RDS4000 tape player) and at the bottom, which was a T junction, slid across the road at a little over walking pace, straight into the kerb on the other side, with the wheels pretty much face onto the face of the kerb.

I drove it back to the office which was only 400 yards away, with the steering wheel at 70deg to where it would normally be centred, and the wheel rubbing the rear of the wheelarch. Tyre wasn't flat.

It was repaired, and the bill that came back was nearly £1800:
New alloy wheel, tyre, suspension arm, track rod end, damper, wheelarch liner, mudflap and labour.

the cost of car parts vary in so much as you can buy from a main dealer and get genuine parts that are approved by the manufacturer, you can buy pattern parts that claim to be made to OEM spec, or you can buy off E Bay and god knows what they claim the parts are and what you might get

sadly the internet is full of fake car parts that claim to be one thing and turn out to be rubbish that is not fit for purpose

If I get it towed to a garage tomorrow and the repairs turn out to be too much, what do I do then about the car? Do they just keep it? Am I responsible for getting it towed somewhere else from the garage, to home or scrap yard etc.
I only have roughly £600 in the bank I can use right now, until the middle of next month. Do they hold them or is payment expected instantly?

Sorry, I'm absolutely clueless. I've only been to a garage once and it wasn't through choice.

At some point you will have to get it moved, after inspection if the cost to repair is uneconomical then you could sell the car for salvage, however until it is inspected and assessed just hang tight.

Braking before the bend, breaking is what happens after you get the bend wrong :)

It's no good criticising OP on braking in a bend, I believe advanced car control theory should be a requirement for getting a drivers license.

Braking mid-corner, braking when the car slides, panic braking when you've just pulled out on someone close enough to cause an accident.

Most people have no idea how to control a car beyond it's limits and all this driver assistance stuff just makes people worse drivers when conditions are less than ideal.
