Latest polling data on the EU:

    http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/blog/archives/9585

    SPOILER ALERT:

    In 54%
    Out 46%
    Shake it all about: 0%
    Do the hokey cokey: 0%

    That's what it's all about.

Can you post the data showing how many EU migrants claim in work benefits as opposed to out of work benefits?. "Welfare" in the eyes of some sections of the media/politicians only includes out of work benefits.

The problem is Gen we just don't know how many EU migrants are working National Minimum Wage jobs whilst claiming housing benefit,Council tax benefit,Working tax credits,Child tax credits etc etc etc.

Personally I don't want a Bulgarian coming here with his family of 5 kids ,working a NMW job whilst receiving upwards of £25k a year in benefits whilst paying naff all into the system. I'd rather not be paying that to a Brit either for that matter but we don't have a choice but we should have the choice not to throw money at EU migrants.

The proposed 4yr ban on EU migrants was not acceptable to the EU on the grounds of it discriminating against EU migrants but apparently a 3yr ban may well be acceptable (not sure why that wouldn't be discriminatory). The NMW in Bulgaria is (420 lev) or £175 per month compared to the UK of £1,200 a month so will the proposed rules stop low skilled EU migrants coming to the UK?. Have a look and see how low the NMW rates are across Eastern Europe and its no wonder why the UK is so attractive.Add the UK NMW together with the in-work benefits and its a no brainer for many EU migrants, come to the UK , get a low skilled job and get far more in benefits.

I think there are a few poster on here who live in a bubble and have no idea whatsoever what in-work benefits have/can be claimed by low skilled EU migrants.

The UK does not need low skilled EU migrants coming here to work NMW jobs. I would argue in the UK it keeps people poor because an influx of low skilled migrants keeps wages suppressed.

Of coarse big business wants the UK to stay in the EU, otherwise it will severe their never ending supply of low skilled workers but that doesn't raise the wages or the standard of living for the poor in the UK in any way.

A points based immigration system may not be perfect but its a damn sight better than what we currently have.

According to a Torygraph article a year or so ago, not very many:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/immigration/11255425/How-much-do-immigrants-really-claim-in-benefits.html

5million Brits claiming in work benefits, 100 odd thousand EU migrants claiming.

    Are you sure?

Three years ago when I was last anywhere near the US-Mexico border there were some very large fences along the border where the roads crossed.

There was an interesting article in yesterday's Times. It said that most Brits see the EU as a deeply flawed organisation. However when it comes to an out, most think we should stay in, but don't rule out another referendum if things don't improve.

I wonder how much Switzerland contributes to the EU, as its not even in the EEA.

I have established that Switzerland paid an 'enlargement contribution' of CHF 1.3 bn in 2014. Given an exchange rate of 0.69 and a population of 8 million, that would be the equivalent of the UK forking out some £8 bn GBP.

    https://www.erweiterungsbeitrag.admin.ch/content/dam/erweiterungsbeitrag/en/documents/Publikationen/Jahresbericht-EB-2014_EN.pdf

On the basis that the UK is now paying about £11 bn GBP, that would be a bit less, but by no means a free ride.

Otherwise known as the Mexico-US Border Fence or the Great Wall of America.

I can't imagine that the Swiss get much in the way of farming subsidies either or is the £11,000,000,000 a net figure?

    It's a net figure I believe.

I assume all who have posted here are familiar with the official website of the EU.

There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.
  • I think if we voted for Brexit there would have to be a second referendum. I don't see how you could vote for something without knowing what it entails. So you vote for Brexit, you're shown what Brexit means and then you vote on whether that still looks better than staying in.
