Maybe there is something to be said for Brexit if it's the end of the class system in the UK.

    We'll see something soon.

I think the intention was to invoke Article 50 around January 1st with the aim of being out of the EU by 2019-01-01.

Before that time I would be conducting informal negotiations with large countries that we do a fair amount of trade with, starting with those that are within the commonwealth as they ought to be easier to ratify.

In my own personal opinion something needs to happen north of the border. Give them the referendum now or politely explain that it cannot happen while we're negotiating our position with the EU. Nicola meeting with EU officials in parallel weakens the overall UK position, it's time the First Minister was put in her place, she's gone way beyond her remit now and it's affecting the rest of the UK. Also this time attach conditions to the referendum that the result is legally binding for x years so that the UK has stability moving into this period, we can't keep doing this every 2 years until the SNP gets the result it wants.

I did warn people. When you're on a bus and your fellow travelers are narrow minded and poorly educated you should ask yourself if the bus is going anywhere you want to be.

It doesn't help that the bus driver didn't seem to know where he was going, then went into reverse, and then lost all interest because he wanted to drive a different bus.

its like an Islamic country only the main religion is Christianity.

So you want us to be like an Islamic country.

And the link with the EU? What does the EU have to do with us not being a "christian country"?

Ms Merkel has said that she doesn't want to negotiate informally. You might want that to happen but as you don't really have a PM or a leader of the opposition for Ms M to negotiate with and she wouldn't want to negotiate with them informally even if you did then you're a wee bit !!!!ed.

London has a greater mandate than Scotland. Just saying.

I've not seen an article suggesting Merkel has said anything like that. I've seen Junker has said it, but anyway I was referring to non-EU countries. The negotiations with the EU will probably have to take place during the 2 year period after article 50, even if we wanted to try informal discussions they're probably going to be voted down by one of the EU member states, that's a unique situation in the world.

Now isn't the time to negotiate with the EU. For obvious reasons we won't get a good deal anytime soon.

Trading on WTO terms will cost our exporters, (according to the head of the WTO) £5.6Bn. We save £7Bn on our EU contribution and of course we will receive around £8Bn from the EU on exports to the UK.

So we're circa £10Bn up on that deal which we could easily use to compensate exporters with tax breaks, research grants, generous export finance etc. And we don't have to make a single concession to the EU.

Of course, if the pound stays at current levels, our exports to the EU will be cheaper after Brexit than they were this time last week. Our exports would be booming.
If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.
