Oh do you mean because immigrants wouldn't vote for Brexit? Actually there's a venerable tradition of immigrants wanting to pull the ladder up after them. Don't assume that because someone is an immigrant they're in favour of immigration.

The guys on packing crews I've worked with realised that although Brits didn't want their jobs other immigrants did and they saw each other as direct competition.

When we talk about foreigners stealing jobs the only jobs they 'steal' are from other foreigners.

I miss those days. As has been noted immigrants tend to be over-qualified for the jobs they take. At break-times you'd get 10 packing guys (communicating in 5 languages) gathered around a laptop where they'd set up an excel spreadsheet which calculated their marginal tax rate taking into account tax credits/ income tax/ NI etc.

When they were offered overtime they'd plug in the hours and know exactly what they'd see in their back-pockets before agreeing to take it. They were a better source of information about tax credits than the government helpline.

You're still not accepting that it is MORE migration that is not wanted then?

I'm fully aware that people say they're not supportive of freedom of movement. Their actions speak otherwise.

Why not survey some of the people queuing for a hand car wash tomorrow, listen to what they say and then pass it through a self-awareness meter?

    Of course this is true.

Hey, even good old Corbs is on an anti-Establishment rant now. What does he want? People to rise up against Starbucks?

If you are worried about populism, don't play the populist card Jeremy !

I thought the same thing. He's on about the 'rigged system' too.

If Trump can be anti-establishment anyone can.

Why are papers so wound up over TTIP, saying Merkel has got EU back to top of queue?

It's already drafted and the EU27 can decide whether to accept or not. The UK on the other hand, would need to draft a new deal (poss taking TTIP as a framework), and start negotiating post Brexit.

Europe has already shown itself lukewarm on TTIP, which may suffer or fail completely off the back of disparate interests, whatever Merkel says. However they have two years to achieve this pre Brexit. So not exactly jumping the queue either.

    Simple answer?

We have a General Election here in the UK soon.
The meeja must grab absolutely every possible opportunity to promote the kind of "Project Fear" campaign they attempted during the referendum campaign to sway the voting intentions of as many sheeple as possible.

Ignoring completely the fact that these tactics did not work well then and are unlikely to work now either.

Hopefully this is a one month only blip.
    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/apr/21/uk-retail-surge-brexit-comes-to-an-end-ons
"Evidence of a steep decline in recent months was emphasised by the month-on-month figure, which has fallen for the last five consecutive months and declined by 1.8% in March (or by 1.5% when fuel sales were excluded)."

    And...
    This is a Joke....
Millions of Britons are excited at the prospect of getting jobs as fruit pickers, hotel cleaners and car wash attendants in Brexit’s Brave New World.
Recruitment agencies say they’ve been swamped with inquiries from people now that we look set to close our borders and put the Great back into Britain.

Hopefully some posters will see the difference between facts AND a Joke.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Oh, and by the way this is not a joke but deadly serious for those family's affected.

"A Diageo spokesperson confirmed about 100 jobs will be affected and that it will do everything to mitigate the impact on its staff: “Following the disposal of our wine business and the subsequent end of the wine bottling contracts, we have reviewed our spirits bottling footprint to ensure we not only deliver leading performance for both our domestic and export supply chains around the world, but also to strengthen our business for the future"

When you are committed to giving £350 million a week EXTRA to the NHS this is understandable.

"The Prime Minister has refused to explain her party’s tax policy, casting confusion over whether the Tories will keep their pledge not to raise income tax, VAT or national insurance.
Asked three times during a campaign appearance in the Black Country whether she would rule out tax rises, Theresa May would only talk of the Conservatives’ low-tax “instinct”.
The Prime Minister also dodged a question about whether her party would keep a so-called “triple lock” on pensions in place."
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

This Conservative Government campaigned to remain in the EU.
I suppose when you're constantly dripping from a foreign country, you can be forgiven for not having a grasp on the facts.

Any job losses are indeed sad - but how many do Diageo employ here in Scotland?
    I will tell you; 4000.

Since however you choose to pick up on whatever sad news there is, I will counter that with some good news as a balance.

London Oxford Airport expansion announced "after business jet usage booms"; it already supports 1500 UK jobs:
