Any Remain voters may want to take a look at this:

A coalition with the SNP. No thanks.

A leading Telegraph story this Easter weekend that claimed ‘55% of UK population’ now supports Brexit was described today as ‘misleading’ by the company commissioned by the newspaper to do the research.
“We did not ask people whether they support Brexit or not,” the Managing Director of Orb International, Johnny Heald, told Reasons2Remain this morning.
In the meantime, Orb International last night published a summary of the findings from their recent survey commissioned by The Telegraph:
    • Overall public approval of Brexit negotiations has increased to 55% following trigger of article 50
    • Public approval of Brexit negotiations up 18% since November
    • Public confidence that we can actually reduce immigration has fallen
    • Free trade seen as priority over immigration control for the first time since November

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

Which party is going to commit to retaining FOM post Brexit in their manifesto though?

More likely there'll be commitments to restricting immigration to skilled workers. Which is a different matter. This the UK can do without reference to the EU if necessary.

Depends if a party will back single market access.

I think only one party will do that, however it waits to be seen how well that will go down.

No politicians seem able or willing to enter into an adult discussion about the future need for labour in UK, skilled or otherwise.

Whenever news articles talk about the next wave of technology removing many jobs, all we get are specious soundbites about training our young for the future challenges.

I don't know how they square FoM with a possibility of more people chasing fewer jobs.

Restrict movement to skilled workers only, with jobs to go to. If a party commits to FOM they can guarantee they will not get my vote, it might work on the continent but here we can't deal with it. We have a massive number of Polish people here in my locality, very few of them in skilled work, and very few of them speak English.

If people come to this country we need to be able to ensure they have SKILLED work, ensure they have enough money to fall back on if they "lose" that job, that they have a home to go to and will not expect social housing, and that they actually speak English. We also need to demand that they have a medical before they arrive, one from a list of doctors that can be trusted, and perhaps controversially, we need to tell them that they will not get free medical treatment for anything other than accidental injuries for the first year - that would stop the people that move here because they need ongoing medical treatment.

I now await attacks from the people that think we should open our doors to everyone and had over a free pass to the nhs as soon as people come in.

Well that resolves the problem of getting the jobs done that Brits can't do. What do you propose doing about the jobs they won't do? I'm guessing that your brave new world doesn't involve you picking fruit or sorting newspapers at 5am.

Presumably as it's not your business you don't give a fig if you wreck someone else's business model.

Imho and fwiw - if there is (at least) a three year transition period after a deal is reached - the May government might have to continue to accept FoM - which is why we are having the GE now - the Tories couldn't have gone in to a GE in 2020 not having gotten rid of FoM. Plus, it looks like we will have to continue to pay into the EU while in transition - so the Tories have chose to go now rather than a face a GE in 2020 trying to explain FoM and large contributions to the EU.

    As I said just mho.

Paul Ryan backs US-UK trade deal 'as soon as possible
The US and UK should agree a bilateral trade deal “as soon as possible” after Brexit is completed, House Speaker Paul Ryan has said.
Mr Ryan, the top Republican in Congress, also heaped praise on Theresa May for "setting the standard for bold leadership” after she called a snap general election for 8 June.

His comments on an early trade agreement mark a boost to Mrs May and her top team as they prepare to begin Brexit negotiations straight after the election, if they remain in power.
The one thought that came to my mind as soon as I watched what transpired yesterday and today is that this is a time for bold leadership and Theresa May is certainly setting the standard,” he said.

“I will simply say good luck and please know that, no matter the outcome of this election, the United States will probably stand by your new government.”

TBH I think the ongoing contributions could be sold to the British people assuming it's just the money that the UK has already agreed to pay. It does sound reasonable that we've agreed to pay a bunch of money and so we're going to pay it. I can see May now banging on about the British sense of fair play and how we don't Welsh on our debts (see what I did there?).

FOM is a deal breaker I think. It seems to be the main reason for many (most?) voters to support Brexit. Let's face it, Brexit for most people is really about immigration. We can paint that as racist or realistic or something else but Brexit succeeded because it conflated immigration and EU membership.
