OK Conrad how exactly are we going to keep our free access to the single market?

    With a free trade deal.

There is already a change in rhetoric.
Spain will act reasonably in the U.K.'s Brexit negotiations with the European Unioin, Economy Minister Luis de Guindos told CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday.
"The position of the Spanish government is very clear. For us the U.K. is a very important country. It is perhaps our closest economic ally if you look at trade, tourism and investments of the Spanish government," he clarified.
"The approach of the Spanish government is going to be reasonable. We want to have a reasonable discussion and I hope that common sense and savvy will prevail," he continued.

I'm all for systems that are fairer, but lets be honest here; these changes are only being implemented because it favours the Tories.

But then I'd be all for a better system than our constituency first past the post system.

The Boundary Commission is independent and regularly reviews constituencies regardless of who's currently governing.

Ideally no system should "favour" a particular party; it's the concept of safe seats that is disgusting.

I wish our system allowed for more independent MPs; I would happily vote for a strong locally-focussed one.

First, the EU already has free trade agreements with over 50 nations and the UK will have to reproduce these to simply maintain current access.

Which we will get to keep (google WTO "piggybacking")- although it is the government's intention to renegotiate some of them because they could be better for Britain.

Second, for the big countries like the US, Japan and China that the EU does not have deals with, it will take the UK years to reach agreements.

    Says you.

Trump wants a deal completed in 180 days.
A US-UK trade deal can be ready within six months, an adviser to Donald Trump said today.
Delivering another boost to Theresa May's hopes of striking new free trade deals after Brexit, Antony Scaramucci said Britain will be one of the President-elect's priorities when he enters the White House on Friday.
He said he didn't want to 'exaggerate' the speed at which a trade deal could be agreed between the two nations but said Mr Trump's team would be in a position to offer an arrangement within the 'first six months or the first year of the administration'.

Davies said yesterday in the HoC that there will be deals ready to sign on the day we leave the EU.

Of course it's no surprise to me that all those Brexit voting democracy lovers don't see the irony of an unelected second chamber and buy biscuit tins celebrating an unelected head of state.

This shows you need to get out of the biscuit tin echo chamber. Brexiteers I speak to / hear want the Lords ditched or to become elected, we see the likes of Baroness Whatcroft and Floella Benjamin from Playschool as utterly inept out of touch luvvies.

I think it can be assumed we wont be trading with the single market on the same terms as now and on top of that we'll be competing with the same said market for new trade.....so I'm saying what can we offer that's different or what undercuts the single market.....a reduction in red tape....bureaucracy etc....that means employee terms, conditions of service, employment rights will be in the mix to be reduced. The EU offered us some insulation from this through the working time directive. I take your point that reduced immigration may offset this but I have no trust in a British Govmt to do this. We will generally make our labour market cheaper imo.

we will gain the benefits of allowing tariff free /reduced imports so reducing our costs at source

EU employment rules don't seem to be doing a lot for the youth unemployment in Greece, Spain, Italy etc

but fundamentally you just don't like democracy or trust the British voters.

EU, UK need widest possible free trade deal, Hungary says
BUDAPEST, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Hungary's foreign minister Peter Szijjarto said on Wednesday the European Union and Britain should strive for the widest, most comprehensive possible free trade deal in the wake of Britain's impending exit from the bloc, or Europe risks economic harm.
He added that even though Brexit was "bad news for Europe as well as Hungary" the European Union must not penalise London in any way for the decision, and urged close cooperation between Europe and Britain in the areas of security and labour.
Szijjarto warned that the UK is likely to make quick trade deals with other nations, posing a risk to Europe if it proves less competitive. (Reporting by Marton Dunai; Editing by Catherine Evans)

We are already fully aligned and trading freely plus are currently worth 10x more in trade to the EU than Canada is

As I said from day one, all sorts of tin pot nations have free, or acceptably free trade with the EU. We probably will

so you fully approve of the electoral boundary changes, but as usual, you hate anything the tories do, even when you agree with them.

Even the most self-serving can do stuff that inadvertantly helps the common people, but that doesn't mean it's any more than a happy coincidence. Be under no illusion that the Tories care about you unless you're a relative/country club member/donor.

Despite the 'ground up revolution' want and get remain two very different things. A very British revolution - a shuffling of the elites that's all.

The elites who have been deposed are hardly complaining. Cameron's getting the best part of £100k to speak in Davos and is maneuvering to head NATO.
