  • Methinks you well and truly lost this argument.

    You thinks wrong.

It is against EU law to offer grants to move companies out of the UK.

Twinings applied for a grant - a conditional offer was made subject to assurances the grant would not be used to move jobs - those assurances were not given - the grant offer was revoked.

So why did you deliberately post a story claiming Twinings moved jobs offshore with the help of an EU grant when the grant was never issued?

Why do you persist in avoiding your original quotation?
    AGAIN:
The EU has never offered grants to move companies out of the Uk.
    And again:
"the firm's funding application has been approved...."
Was this funding application or was it not for a factory in Poland?

Now had the EU not approved the application then maybe the factory in Poland would not have been built.
But the EU DID approve the application.
    The factory WAS built.
Whether or not the EU did pay is irrelevant; the fact is that they said they would pay.

Now wriggle and squirm all you want Hamish but the facts are there.
  • Why do you persist in avoiding your original quotation?

    I'll highlight the relevant bit.

The EU has never offered grants to move companies out of the Uk

When it looked like the grant might be used for that purpose the EU withdrew the grant offer.

No grant was issued to Twinings.

Why do you feel the need to keep twisting and squirming on this topic?

You tried to make out Twinings got an EU grant to move jobs out of the UK - they did not - you deliberately deceived the readers by omitting the key fact said grant application was ultimately refused specifically because it might result in jobs moving and that is against the EU rules.

I have to say that the EU very obviously did offer "funding".
And that the funding was not for inside the UK.
The offer of funding was only withdrawn after complaints from MP's - and too late to stop building of the factory, too.
  • I have to say that the EU very obviously did offer "funding".

    Of course they did.

It's entirely the purpose of EU development funds to assist economies to grow.

The EU spent £6 BILLION on UK projects in the UK last year alone.
And that the funding was not for inside the UK.

EU funding is obviously not exclusive to the UK.
The offer of funding was only withdrawn after complaints from MP's - and too late to stop building of the factory, too.

The offer of funding was withdrawn after the EU failed to get guarantees it would not be used to move jobs from the UK to Poland in breach of EU law.

    No grant was issued.

So it's deliberately deceitful to blame the EU.

    No.
It is deliberately deceitful to absolve the EU of blame.

    Use google.

As your anti-EU blinkers will prevent any source I provide from being read objectively anyway.

  • No.
It is deliberately deceitful to absolve the EU of blame.

You'd blame the EU for an asteroid hitting Earth or a storm hitting Grimsby.
