Eleanor Sharpston, an advocate general at the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in Luxembourg, issued a legal opinion ruling that all 38 national and regional parliaments, including the EU’s 28 national parliaments, five regional and linguistic parliaments in Belgium, as well as at least five upper chambers in Europe have to approve an EU trade deal with Singapore that is currently in the works.
This means that Mrs May will have to go through the same process for any post-Brexit deal, leaving the government with the possibility that any regional or national assembly could delay a trade deal or block it entirely.
Excellent news. Single market deal now virtually impossible so we'll be free of the EU in its entirety. :TIf I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
I'm quite aware of that thank you but posters on here do have the luxury of posting nonsense for which they are unaccountable and get cheap thanks from the similarly ignorant and prejudiced.
Like Tricky Trees it's all so simple for you isn't it!
Merkel has achieved more as a world leader and will be respected more in Europe than any of the shower we have at present. Brexit hasn't started yet!
It is quite straight forward really.
The migrant crisis was not dealt with properly by the EU as a whole - failure.
Germany and Sweden adopted an open migration policy which has now ceased - failure.
People are dying in Europe at the hands of mass murderers in allegiance to radical Islam, burkas are being banned in Holland, France and Germany and migrants are being told in Sweden their stay is temporary regardless of their status.
The whole thing was one gigantic virtue signalling exercise, I know the faux liberals are fond of virtue signalling, but this was a colossal mistake. They know it, they're finding out and now they're trying to close the gate after the horse has bolted.
By opening the borders in such a way they merely encouraged others to make the trip, causing more people smuggling, more sinking boats, more drowning men, women and children.
Idiots. I can't believe you're standing up for the whole gigantic mess.
It would be hilarious if the whole thing wasn't such a human tragedy.
The solution was to instantly send them back to where they arrived from, regardless of treaty. Remove the incentive to make the trip, a strong response on the smuggling and illegal migration and a strong response to aid on the ground near to ground zero.
As far as I'm aware the UK attempted to do both of those things by patrolling the Med and choosing asylum seekers near to ground zero, the most vulnerable first whilst also sending state aid.
And now the EU, in a state of panic, struck a deal with Turkey who just had a crackdown on freedom after a failed coup in which people who come through Turkey are then sent back there and we give them money for the privilege. The leadership is weak, terribly weak. Now Turkey is twisting the arm of the EU by weaponising the migrants!
Then there's the plight of the migrants themselves, in a foreign country living off the state in perpetuity because it's difficult to find a job when you don't speak the language. I think I read/heard somewhere that something like 4% of Germany's migrants in the last 12 months have a job. That's a lot of welfare claimants, for as long as they don't speak the language which could be their lifetime.
Which part of the plan went well Moby?
Honestly, I can't see it.0 -
It's definitely a total mess and would be much better dealt with by providing proper support at source, I don't think anyone can argue otherwise.setmefree2 wrote: »12 people are dead and don't have the luxury of being wound up.
Not that the loss of 12 people in an attack isn't a tragedy, but how many would have died if Merkel had put them in camps or left them at the border?0 -

Right.
In which case you might just like the following although - judging from your previous comments - that is unlikely.
But here you go.
UK economy "in good shape as it heads into 2017":

To aid that opinion, the latest CBI retail figures look good:

Changing tack slightly I noted a piece yesterday about UK banks preparing for Brexit.
Seemingly banks are considering legal action against the European Comission if they make life difficult for banks:

Thank you Jock. This is good news while Britain prepare to leave the EU and I like it. You should have also highlighted that VAT receipts were up indicating strong consumer spending.
I hope the figures are good AFTER Britain has left the EU.
Keep posting the good economic news. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Japanese companies spend $35Bn this year buying up UK companies, up from $9.5Bn last year. How's that for post-brexit confidence?

Thank you Rinoa. That is great news showing confidence by Japanese company's in Britain while Britain prepares to leave the EU. They have also managed better deals as the pound was a little lower in value than a year ago. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

the charge against Merkel is that she created the immigration crisis by saying that if immigrants come they will be welcome and catered for.
They did come and in huge numbers and Geemany/Europewas not ready to cater for them.0 -
UK moves up 'best for business' list despite Brexit fears
Forbes cited improved UK scores on corruption and tax burden plus an upturn in the stock market as it published the annual list.
