Fish and chips ..yum
and i quote from BBC..An Italian minister has accused Boris Johnson of "insulting" his country by suggesting it should back his version of a Brexit deal or face losing sales of Prosecco sparkling wine.
Carlo Calenda said the UK would abandon some "fish and chips exports" under the foreign secretary's approach.
Mr Calenda said: "He basically said, ‘I don’t want free movement of people but I want the single market’. I said, ‘no way’. He said, ‘you’ll sell less prosecco.’ I said, ‘OK, you’ll sell less fish and chips, but I’ll sell less prosecco to one country and you’ll sell less to 27 countries.’”[QUOTE
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "The foreign secretary's comments reflect the strength of the trading relationship between the UK and Italy.
"We're looking to ensure this continues as we depart the EU."
Whitehall sources insisted that the comment about Prosecco had not been an insult but part of a "constructive" conversation.
UK sales of Prosecco overtook those of champagne last year, reaching £339m in the 12 months to July, according to research company IRI.
No figures on UK exports of fish and chips to the EU were immediately discovered by the BBC.:rotfl::D

Why is that funny? He's pointing out that the EU will lose access to a small market and we'll lose access to a huge one.0 -

The UK is the Number One export market for prosecco. We drink 20% of the stuff. The association of Italian food producers is actually quite worried about Brexit. See, for example;
EU referendum prompts prosecco panic in Italy

Other sparking alcoholic beverages are available.
On the other hand, I'm not that sure that 'fish and chips' is a a major UK export. Perhaps the Italians do buy British seafood and potatoes. I don't know, perhaps something was lost in translation.0 -
So now its all Russia's fault

Meanwhile in the EU, car sales slow:European car sales fell 0.3 percent in October
Contrast that with UK sales growing by 1.4% in the same period; now does anyone still believe that there are not signs of caution within the EU?

In other news, bookies William Hill make Marine Le Pen the second-favourite to win in France.
Heh, closer and closer as I predicted earlier this year.

Perhaps this illustrates the fact that the EU is not an unified collective when it comes down to the practicalities behind negotiations.
Different countries will have different priorities. Whereas Poland might be chiefly worried about lack of access to a labour market, for others it will be impact to export markets.
We worry about the UK having a consistent negotiating position. Imagine having to try and satisfy 27 different countries!
I could easily see 2 years of A50 negotiations with much of that time showing little meaningful progress. They will end up agreeing on trivial things now and then to remind us things are happening.0 -
Either way, another example of the primal fear garbage you lot fell for hook line and sinker.
Hopefully some information about what Brexit means will be forthcoming soon so we have something to talk about. Proving Brexit is going to be great by noting the sun still rises every morning is boring. As is arguing about which politicians are the most convincing in their lies.
In fact I'm hoping for another referendum where we all vote to leave again such has been the wondrous effect on the economy of just the act of deciding to leave the EU.0 -
Brexit blamed for UK's £100bn budget black hole
The Chancellor will admit the UK is facing a £100bn black hole in its finances over the next five years thanks to Brexit.
Oops.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

2 years simply isn't enough time and it's going to be a frustrating couple of years too.
The UK might not worry about 'red lines' like immigration and ECJ because they're non-negotiable so I can see legislation implemented to stop shared sovereignty with them just doing their best to make progress on trade.
i.e. the government just take these issues off the table as items up for negotiation.
The irony is we'll be more engaged in Europe over the next 10 years than we will have been for the last 40.0
