the level of hate on social media is indeed a cause of concern; this seems to apply to a huge number of issues
one might hope that all reasonable people would combine to condemn it rather than simply use some particular example to further their own political cause.0 -

You're there with your "we" again, from your Luxembourg home that you have vowed never to return from and given that you have derided so much that is British as well as expressing pro-EU policies in the past.
I really wish you would decide whether you really want to be British or not.
Because it appears from your posts that you are desirous of being a "fairweather friend" who is beginning to wobble on that fence upon which you precariously balance.
So please, either admit your patriotism or use "you" instead of "we".
So you are not waiting for the Governments appeal to be heard
So you are not speculating or guessing on what will happen next.
So why are YOU posting anything?
Please don't answer. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -

Uncertainty for business in the EU:
+ Will Le Pen win and hold a referendum?
+ Will the Italian Banks collapse?
+ How will new regulations under Mifid 2 and Basal 4 affect me?
+ Will Holland want a referendum?
+ What if members carry on erecting border fences?
+ Will Trump back us militarily, if not, what cost and tax increases will be required for an EU military?
+ In this new world will Switzerland and Norway decide to follow the UK?
+ How much longer before EU citizens rise up and demand an end to FOM / mass immigration?
+ Will Brussels hamper my exports to the UK?
+ Will Brussels make access to London's deep capital markets harder?
Etc etc0 -
Theresa May has stated clearly on any number of times that discussing possible outcomes publicly will jeopardize negotiations with the EU. It's not necessary that she should give chapter and verse on whether she consulted anyone beforehand.
.
Remainer motive is surely to hamper May at the negotiating table and imply to the EU we are submissive, with the hope she would come back with such bad terms that we would wish not to bother with Brexit, afterall they would all be able to say 'neh, neh, told you Brussels would not give us a thing'0 -
I was at a meeting last night where the British Ambassador to Luxembourg John Marshall, made a speech.
I am fully aware that he is a career diplomat and his masters are the British Government.
During this speech he outlined and confirmed The British Prime Ministers red lines. He also said he believed that the EU four freedoms were also non negotiable.
He clearly stated that he and all the British Ambassadors of EU country's were collating and funnelling advise and information back to the UK. There was a meeting a few days ago in London of all these Ambassadors where they were given instructions about what further information was needed.
He indicated that the task was HUGE as it involved so much. He mentioned financial commitments made and to be made, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland border, British Overseas Territories, Tangible assets etc etc
He also said that ALL the departments of State were working full time on Brexit and only Brexit.
He did not say and no one asked the question "If all the departments of State are working full time on Brexit what or who is doing the normal work of State"
I post this in good faith and hope I will not be flamed for providing this factual information when I have so little facts but too much guessing. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
I am surprised Conrad did not post as this as he seemed to predict it.UK inflation rate falls
Yes FALLS.Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation fell to 0.9%, from 1% in September, the Office for National Statistics said.
That was below the 1.1% predicted by economists, who said sterling's fall would push October's CPI higher.0 -

Watched a Tory discussing the setting up of Free Trade Zones around British Ports once we left the EU.
It involves creating tariff-free trade zones around ports would allow manufacturers to import and export without paying duty and customs charges.
Free ports, which are already popular in the US and many other countries, are areas that, although inside the geographic boundary of a country, are considered outside the country for customs purposes.
This means goods can enter and leave without incurring usual import procedures or tariffs, which Mr Sunak says would provide fresh incentive for UK manufacturers in the post-Brexit era.
A free ports programme would benefit the North. What is a Free Port (also called a Free Trade Zone)?
An area inside the UK geographically, but legally outside of the UK customs territory. Goods can be imported, manufactured or reexported inside the Free Trade Zone without incurring domestic customs duties or taxes. These are only paid (often at reduced rates) on goods entering the domestic economy.
As well as benefits to customs taxes and duties, Free Trade Zones often also support economic activity through financial incentives like Research and Development (R&D) tax credits, regulatory flexibility, and tax reductions.
There are approximately 3,500 Free Trade Zones worldwide, employing 6
6 million people across 135 countries. There are no Free Trade Zones on the UK mainland today.0 -

Good post. Meanwhile Merkel suggests that there could be room for discussion about what FoM actually means. Pity they didn't think about this six months ago.
