Increased food wastage at Co-op!!
Comments
-
I was chatting to the store manager earlier and he confirmed it's a new policy from HO. When they do the reductions they're restricted to the prices that come out on the POS guns and any attempt by staff to alter them, or make manual reductions at the till could result in suspension and disciplinary process.
Even the manager is !!!!!! off with it because food waste has drastically increased over the past couple of weeks and is now affecting his sales performance. And he confirmed that all waste from his store goes to landfill, not charity.
He actually encouraged me to email HO with my concerns. I'll also be emailing HFW to alert him to the Co-op's new policy.0 -
Friend who works in local store just popped round for coffee at end of shift, and on telling her about my concerns and that I've started an Internet thread about on MSE has asked me to pass on that sales in general across fresh groceries are down since the introduction of this new policy.
It's too early yet to say whether it's due to a post Xmas slump (but sales are lower than previous years at this time) or as a result of the new reduction policy. In her words "people are not going to pay inflated prices even when reduced when they can buy them cheaper elsewhere."
We think the new Asda store that recently opened just a couple of miles away may play a part in what people are prepared to buy in the Co-op and at what price. Currently there's no direct threat here from Aldi/Lidl as nearest is 15 miles away.0 -
If you were actually concerned that food is being wasted then you would do the honourable thing and buy any food that is close to the sell by date, irrespective of the price, to prevent it being thrown away.
Since you have chosen not to buy the food, then you are contributing to the waste of food, and really you are just moaning about no longer getting a bargain.
Revisiting this thread and I must have missed this comment earlier.
I only buy reduced food that I need/want. I don't just buy anything for the sake of it.
To clarify: I cook all my own food from raw ingredients. When I enter supermarkets I'm buying raw ingredients. If those raw ingredients are available in the reduced section, even better! And I always scan the reduced section for opportune pickings I can utilise in my cooking. I never touch any ready made stuff. I leave that to the "vultures" you claim exists. Most of the reduced stock in my local Co-op are ready made meals and sandwiches/wraps etc. I usually just pick up the bread and veg I can turn into soup.0 -

Can't believe someome would get worked up over something like this.
Its upto Coop what they do with their food. No point getting moody about it just because you cant get your 10p loaf of bread anymore.0 -

Some people on the forums get moody on much less things, such as the spelling on some posts.
Such is the variety of this site.
I for one will never understand why some continue to post on a thread that they think pointless but yet somehow still worthy of their attention!0 -

A well known high street store has skips at the back and one day I saw them running over gardening stuff such as wire hanging baskets etc. so that people do not take them from the skips.
Why not donate to a charity shop instead of destroying them.
This is because people steal things from skips then try to get refunds.0 -

You can't get refunds on out of date produce unless you can prove (via a receipt) that you bought them OOD. I did that and was offered a fresher item in replace as it was something I wanted/needed, not just bought it because it had a reduced sticker on it.0
