No, I meant karmically. After acting clever on a thread about buying going-off food it was karma that I would then look silly trying to buy some of it and getting screwed by my lack of attention. As you say, not very MSE. It was delicious though.
I posted it as a reminder to always check that the cashier notices the expired label and scans it through correctly. Often they put it over the barcode, but in this case it was taped across a corner of the box and difficult to see.
As for the metal baskets, why on earth would you give them away to a rival shop so people can buy your goods from someone else instead of from you? Recycling them would be the best outcome, but it's their money they're wasting.Poppyoscar wrote:You cannot get a refund without a receipt but even so there is no need to destroy perfectly good items.
It will depend on the shop but they may well give refunds without a receipt, in the form of vouchers / store credit only. Certainly Argos did when I worked there.
Take perfectly good items from skip, take them into a large chain that does them, demand a refund, get vouchers, spend the vouchers on something new, sell it on eBay or at a car boot sale, lovely jubbly.0

Some people used to buy non food items from Tesco when they were on offer. then return them for a full price refund. They changed their rules after that!0

Always a good reminder.Malthusian wrote: »I posted it as a reminder to always check that the cashier notices the expired label and scans it through correctly. Often they put it over the barcode, but in this case it was taped across a corner of the box and difficult to see.
I check my receipts before leaving any shop.
Co-op are poor at charging the correct price for reduced items.
Tesco often get their prices wrong, I'm always at their Customer Service desk telling them about an overcharge.
Same for bank & credit card statements.
People post that they've been paying £xx.xx for months - even years - and don't know what it's for.
PS - I'd just like to point out that I asked if you meant 'comically' as a joke - didn't the smiley give it away?0

A well known high street store has skips at the back and one day I saw them running over gardening stuff such as wire hanging baskets etc. so that people do not take them from the skips.
Why not donate to a charity shop instead of destroying them.

Yes like this,( although What I saw was worse in a way as they were damaging the items so that they were of no use to anyone.)
Funny how when it was made public they admitted they should not have done it.
And this comment made in the article is so true
“If people don’t complain then they’ll just keep getting away with it. It must be happening all around the country.”0

Also from that articleA spokesman said: “Our Stretford store chose to dispose of a number of three-year-old, ex-display bikes that had parts missing and could not be reduced to clear or offered to colleagues.
Still cant see the issue myself. What I decide to throw away is upto me. What Tesco/Coop decide to throw away is upto them.0

Urm, yeahThis is now becoming intolerable.
Is that not theft?I was given two carrier bags full of veggies & bread out the back door tonight
Do you own the stock in this shop?Better stock control is needed and any surplus stock needs to be directed to appropriate charities
It's not yours, what right do you have to dictate what happens to it?I've since learned that some of the Coop waste goes to be burned for fuel but to me, that's still a waste of food. Food is meant to be eaten, not burned for fuel.
If it bothers you so much, open your own shop in competition. Who knows you may shut the Coop down . . .0

It most certainly is.Feral_Moon wrote: »This is now becoming intolerable.
So staff are trying to encourage people to buy food thats due to expire? I thought your initial moan was that the coop was stopping people? Confused now as to what your actual stance is.Feral_Moon wrote: »Staff are spreading reduced price items around the store and concentrating them around the till to try encourage people to buy.
Can't see that coops stock control is any of your businessFeral_Moon wrote: »This new policy has seen a reduced uptake of old stock. Maybe time for manager to reconfigure stock control. Today's waste was mostly sandwiches and processed ready meals.
Sounds a bit dodgy to meFeral_Moon wrote: »I was given two carrier bags full of veggies & bread out the back door tonight otherwise they'd have ended up in landfill.
Again, none of your business reallyFeral_Moon wrote: »The staff are working with me on this campaign. Better stock control is needed and any surplus stock needs to be directed to appropriate charities before it runs OOD.
How exactly is that a waste? Its providing an essential serviceFeral_Moon wrote: »I've since learned that some of the Coop waste goes to be burned for fuel but to me, that's still a waste of food. Food is meant to be eaten, not burned for fuel.0

Taking goods home that had been written off, or giving them to others is gross misconduct, likely to result in dismissal.0
