Might be an idea to read the entire thread before commenting. I know, it's easy to wade in without knowing facts. Been there, got many t-shirts lol0

I believe a poster refererred to metal goods? That's the post I quoted.Feral_Moon wrote: »You can't get refunds on out of date produce unless you can prove (via a receipt) that you bought them OOD. I did that and was offered a fresher item in replace as it was something I wanted/needed, not just bought it because it had a reduced sticker on it.0

I'm not quite sure why this thread has attracted such negative feedback and trolls. Certainly doesn't reflect the area within which I live, nor the customers that frequent my local Co-op, thank goodness.
The saying ... " There's nowt so queer as folk " certainly rings true here 0 0

I had a 15% coupon off tonight so my celery, peppers, tomatoes and chilli to make soup tomorrow cost me nothing at all. I also bagged a few artisan loaves @ 79p each, not quite the reduction I'm used to, but still enough to ensure they don't end up in landfill. I can't home bake a loaf for less, hence purchasing, despite the priorl 39p or 19p prices.0

Thank goodness that the co op is not like a hot food counter in London.

This is because people steal things from skips then try to get refunds.
You cannot get a refund without a receipt but even so there is no need to destroy perfectly good items.
As I said they could donate them to a charity shop or even to a local place where people with learning difficulties grow and sell plants.
 They just cannot be bothered.
By contrast a small shop sometimes has a basket outside inviting people to help themselves to out of season stock.0

That's fine then, glad we've got that cleared up.Malthusian wrote: »I stand corrected. Expiring food. Much of which will have expired when the buyer eats it. I know, I buy stuff with reduced stickers and eat it after its sell by date all the time. (The look-smell-taste test has not failed me yet.) However, I don't claim it's a human right to do so. It makes sense for the shop if the choice is between selling something reduced and throwing it away, but there is plenty of anecdotal evidence in this thread that when customers start to expect reductions, the reverse happens and you are selling stuff reduced instead of selling it full price.
Any YS food that I buy usually ends up in the freezer before 'use by' date expires.
Do you mean 'comically' :rotfl:Malthusian wrote: »Karmically, I bought a pizza that had been reduced by 50% from the Co-op this afternoon and they scanned it through as full price. I'm not blaming them, the sticker was on the side of the box and difficult to see, I should have paid attention when it was scanned through. I could bring it back with the receipt but life's too short. Serves me right for falling for a "bargain" which is still more expensive than making my own dinner anyway.
Not very MSE not to check your receipt.
I've bought some decent bargains from the local Coop in my sister's village - mainly raw meat or fresh veg - not noticed this 'policy' that the OP's writes about yet but I'll be keeping my eye on the 'reduced' space.0

I've read the thread from the start, as I do with all threads.
Just because people disagree with you does not make them "negative" or "trolls".0

 karmically
In a karmic fashion, relating to karma. Adverb of karma.
It is a good idea, karmically speaking, to be good to others.0
