New laptop arrived today

Hi guys,
I ordered a new laptop + additional 3 year warranty and it came today.
Upon opening and turning it on, the screen seemed slightly off (i'll explain a bit more), but I thought that i would let it run for a short time and see if the screen improved.
However the screen hasn't improved over the last few hours.
It looks slightly grainy, and like there are lots of little dots on it. it almost looks like if you leave a fingerprint on a smartphone, and you can see the grains and pixels amplified through it. I gave the screen a wipe with a cloth incase it was just unclean. it is a full hd screen (1920x1080).
I showed it to a friend and just said "does the screen look right?" and they said that it looked like a film was on it and that it looked almost blurry and grainy and would give them a headache from using it.
I've removed the film that was stuck over it so it wasn't that.
So I was wondering what i should do at this point (I don't know consumer rights overly well but i know often time is of the essence).
My main 3 thoughts are:
if i return it to be fixed, it will take a long time to get the laptop back to me working (is it likely to take long), is it possible to get a refund?
What happens to the extended warranty i purchased at an additional cost - will this get refunded if i ask for a refund or not?
If i return it and they tell me there isn't a problem at all, what happens at that point?
I have yet to email the company as it is evening now, and i thought i should ask here what I should do first
Thanks, any help would be appreciated

Reject goods as under 14 days to inspect.
Order elsewhere.0 -
With that, will i have to pay return costs, and am i entitled to a refund?
Thanks0 -
If it's faulty - no.findingrights wrote: »With that, will i have to pay return costs, and am i entitled to a refund?

If it's not faulty, just not as good as you expected - maybe.
Have a read of MSE's Consumer Rights guide.
There's a whole section in there about buying at a distance.0 -
Hi,
I've had a look through that, that is a really good guide, I wish i had read before purchasing as i would have used my credit card rather than debit.
I've shown the laptop to someone else and they also commented that the screen looks odd.
I would say this falls under the 'satisfactory' part of that guide.
or there is a fault with the screen.
I will email the company tomorrow first thing to let them know, is there anything else i should be doing or saying at this point, to them0 -
Some laptop lcd screens can look "grainy", some screens from certain manufacturers are better than others. What laptop is it?
It'll probably simpler to just get a refund under the CCRs, assuming it was purchased online.0 -
it's a Cube laptop, not sure i can mention the retailer here?
I've been looking at the website for returns and it says:
"The item must not be used and must be 'as new' when returned to us. If the item does not include the original packaging a charge may be made. We reserve the right to make a minimum charge of £50 to restore a used computer back to factory default settings. Please note you cannot return a used computer to us under the Consumer Contract Regulations."
Would the laptop be considered used at this point?
I've used it for a total of maybe an hour, and installed skype and chrome on it, and done nothing else0 -
The hardware might be full HD but are you sure its actually running in 1920x1080 resolution, otherwise it might well look "grainy".0

yes, i did check that, it's 1920 x 1080 in the settings.0

I also hooked it up via HDMI to my tv, and the laptop crashed, then came back on and is displaying on the tv fine.0
