yes ive been to costco and it was still dearer than makro and theres still loads more choice at makro
To be a Makro member you need to either self-employed or authorised to buy for a business. There is no personal membership. I used to borrow my Mum's card when she was in business.
To join Costco you only need to be employed in a wide range of professions or public services for personal membership. There is also trade membership.
This week, Costco has a Breville Brita filter kettle on offer, with a Passport voucher for £29.36. The same kettle at Argos costs £49.96.
In early November they will be offering a Panasonic 32" LCD TV for £469.98. Argos price is £699.99.0 -

I've twice done a same-for-same comparison and costco was cheaper on every item. Makro had a bigger choice, and more availability in smaller pack sizes. Costco tended only to have premium brands, and a better selection of non-food items.0 -
I quite liked costco.Good savings on mach 3 razors and good quality pork chops (best I have ever had).
Join with someone elses wife and split the cost between you both, also when your card expires rejoin because if you just continue with your membership it is backdated and if you have not been for a month you have lost one months membership.
I have previously joined with a friend in the past.. making the membership 15 quid each.
Also, when the membership was due to run out, we both stocked up on the products that we liked and let the membership run out. Then when we need to go again.. maybe 2 or 3 months later.. we would reapply. No lost months. A full new membership obtained.
I agree with alot of the posters here that when the supermarkets have deals on, Costco does not work out cheaper. However, I would rather get the salmon from Costco, regardless of the offer in any supermarket. It is delicious !!0 -
I would certainly recommend Costco if you like quality products at value for money prices. Like other embers, myself and the wife regularly top up the freezer with the meat products (mainly minced beef, sirloin steaks, chicken breasts, diced steak as well as a roast beef joint or two in the past). When I say we top up, I visit at least once a month as I work near the Leeds branch so we never really let stocks get too low! I also pick up the wash tablets and fabric conditioner (Comfort Easy Iron is 10l for around £6 off the top of my head).
On top of that we have taken advantage of the passport deals, giving us what I believe as exceptional value for my membership.
Also, my parents are members who have purchased tyres through them and a pair of glasses each and say that it definitely is value for money. They have recommended it to at least two other couples who have attended as guests and ended up joining themselves.
If you like bulk buying to top up a weekly /fortnightly/monthly shop at the supermarket plus excellent offers then I would certainly give Costco a thoughtApparently I am the original tight fisted Yorkshire Man!!0 -
Hi, I joined last week. Can anyone tell me how you get the passport offers? Joined specifically to get a couple of cakes from the bakery but need to make the most of my membership now I've bought it.

They send you the booklet a couple of weeks before the offers start. There tends to be about 10 offers a week - the current book runs out at the end of November. If you ask the membership desk you may get one. Also you don't actually need the voucher from the book (or the book for that matter) - they use a 'master' copy at the checkout.0 -

We got loads of the Green and Blacks choc the other week - great bargain. I just have to hide it now so I don't eat it all!
I can highly recommend their greek yoghurt (£1.99 for a kilo) or the bio pot yoghurt (I think it is £1.20ish for a 1 kilo).
Things that always come up in the passport and are so wort getting in bulk (if you have the cash and room)..
Toilet roll
Steak mince (then get it home and bag it into sandwich bags in sizes for 2 or 4 and freeze)
Persil Powder (usually on 2 for about £12 for huge pack)
Contact lenses and glasses (the optician in the Aberdeen branch is very good)
And today I treated myself to a pair of thei Ugg type boots (real Aussie sheepskin) - £23! They were flying off the shelves though.
I love costco! :money:The Best Things in Life Are Free0 -

Usually in Leeds they also have a box of these inside the door, where the card checker stands. If I have gone and forgotten to take mine, I just pick up another Passport staff never mind.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. i wonder if people can offer some advice here. I went to the local costco to register a few weeks back under my business and was turned back:
- they want a utility bill in your business name and address. I dont have one. I am IT contractor so have no real office apart from my clients, but my office is registered on the accountants office address.
I can provide a bank statement in my business's name but the correspondence address is my home address NOT the registered business address.
- I have a VAT registration certificate. This shows my company address as being that of the accountant's office.
I tried explaining to the registrations woman but she didnt quite understand why I have no utility bills for my business address. Can someone pls advise on how to proceeed with membership here?0 -
Can you get in on personal membership? This may be a quicker route for you.
