You have to be within certain professions - but this is quite a long list. I wopuld go and ask them - or check out their website. I got personal membership as I used to be a business member, but left the company and they just renewed me under personal.
Give them a ring.................good luck

I've just realised I might be able to join as my wife is a government employee  I'll call them tomorrow.0 -

I am almost certain that government employees are part of the list. You shouldn't have a problem as a partner can join and the spouse gets a free card.
Well my hubby does anyway.

yes ive been to costco and it was still dearer than makro and theres still loads more choice at makro
Totally disagree with you on both counts. We went to Makro on Friday. My husband calls it "poor man's Costco". The prices are higher. The choice is far less. The stores are nowhere near as bright and cheerful as Costco. Saying all that I went for the BOGOF jars of lolly pops for my Samaritan's Purse shoeboxes.........................:j . That is something they do beat Costco on price.0 -

Totally agree with you Lara - I think the quality is far superior at Costco too.

how do you get personal membership? Can anyone join?
If you can't join via your wife's profession do you know anyone who has a card? I've joined three people on my card and all they need is a utility bill showing their home address. The primary holder is allowed 6 extra cards for family and friends.0 -
i wonder if people can offer some advice here. I went to the local costco to register a few weeks back under my business and was turned back:
- they want a utility bill in your business name and address. I dont have one. I am IT contractor so have no real office apart from my clients, but my office is registered on the accountants office address.
I can provide a bank statement in my business's name but the correspondence address is my home address NOT the registered business address.
- I have a VAT registration certificate. This shows my company address as being that of the accountant's office.
I tried explaining to the registrations woman but she didnt quite understand why I have no utility bills for my business address. Can someone pls advise on how to proceeed with membership here?
I took an accountants bill0 -

I have been a member for 6 years. You can get some real bargains especially when they send you the voucher books (usually twice a year). I have to admit sometimes it's a pain to buy in bulk but we do save a lot. We've bought kitchen appliances and TV's and saved hundreds so far.
And we even have tea there, my husband loves it. Costs us about £3 and we both can't move :rotfl:
Give it a go for 12 months and see what you think!
Civil servants do qualify as I am one.
One other point that a few people at work do- go in and register but add your friend as the second card holder. Share the registration costs between both of you so would cost you £20 each instead of £40.0
