to be honest costco is quite dear for what it is your employer is best approaching makro as the cards are free and makro is 3 times the size of costco the only thing makro doesnt do is the nice birthday cakes but you can go to a bakery for them i guess. But makro do bedding quilts, food, washing powder and fabric contitioner ect.

    I hope this helps :)

Completely disagree. Costco is far cheaper than Makro for a number of basic items such as washing powder, loo roll etc. Costco also sell bedding, quilts, covers etc - sorry have you every been in a Costco?

I used to work for an Electrical importer who sold to both Costco and Makro. In fact was around when Costco first started to take off in this country. And do you know what Makro did - streamed lined their products to match the sales pitch of Costco!

Costco (and Makro for that matter) is only worth it if you can afford to buy bulk and need to buy bulk.

    EM xx

PS I buy a years supply of loo roll from there when it comes on offer - great value.
You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.
    Plato ;) Make £2018 in 2018 no. 37 - total = £1626.25/£2018 :j
  • I agree I used to have a costco card but now have one for Marko, larger store, much more to choose from, no fee and they send mailings approx fortnightly with new offers and sometimes money off vouchers, also no photo on card so much easier to lend to a friend/family member.
  • As mentioned above I use it for tyres and contact lenses and that covers the subs so anything else is a bonus! The fresh bakery is really good for croissants, muffins and pastries and they all freeze well. I also get my photos printed there on the 1 hour service or download from home and just call in to collect them.

    I love the fresh salmon.

I do however find Tesco / main supermarkets cheaper when items are on BOGOF!

And you can get Royal Mail stamps in Costco - great at Xmas time.
Can't remember how much you save but every little helps.

(They only sell first class stamps IIRC so to be really moneysaving you should buy second class and post earlier - so feel free to ignore the above?!?)
We all evolve - get on with it

I have a card for both Makro and Costco and pop into Leeds and usually visit both, Costco the first.

Both have good buys on cleaning products, detergents etc as well as food & drink.

Years ago I bought a stereo from Costco, it was cheaper than sister in law could get from Currys where she was a manager, plus we got a free 5 year warranty with it.

The food in Costco is good value, especially while using their Passport offers booklets.
I usually buy 5 or 6 tins of Kenco when they are on offer and they last me a year.
I stocked up in Feb on Nescafe 1kg tin 6 of them cost me £51.96 (no VAT on coffee ! )

we have belonged for 10 years. We go 4 times a year and buy large packs of beef and lamb mince. Cat food in huge bags ,big hunks of cheese and big tins of pineapple and tuna. About every 18 months I buy a drum of laundry powder which last round till next time.I used to price it all out and compare with my regular shop before costco and have always saved much more than the membership fee. They have good prices on books too.
The best buys for us are food items as there is no VAT charged above the cost on the price label. For taxable goods, you need to check the 'including VAT' label to be sure of how much it is really costing you..

I always see it as "You get great value for what you pay" rather than it being cheap. We buy razor blade packs, electrical goods, aforementioned magners, the boxes of wine are good value at xmas (not cheap but good value) etc. I really like it.

Oh and the meat and food is amazing! but yes, not somewhere to do your weekly shop!

I tried the beefburgers from the butchers section last week, 8 for £4.99 ish (I think) and have to say they were delicious, im not normally a beefburger eater but these kept their shape, didnt shrink and were very, very tasty :D

I also buy the prawns from Costco, they are to die for, absolutely the best prawns ive ever tasted.

I love going to Costco because I get treated to lunch, which is a hotdog and coke.......yummy :D

I've been a member of Costco since they first opened in the UK.

As others have said it's not the cheapest. But it often is the cheapest for premium quality products. If you're expect them to match price with Tesco Value items and Sainsburys Basics then it's not for you.

Some deals with the voucher books are phenomenal value. You need to be able to store items in bulk or be creative in how you buy them. For example, as a family of 4 we could never eat a 12 pack of muffins before they expire - so I give 1/2 to my mum. Most stuff that I buy there I split half with my parents because they are on a pension and not having to buy certain things makes their pension go a bit further.
