Both of my daughters are members and one of them bought for me yesterday a 40" SaMSUNG 1080 tv, saving me £378 on my local House of Fraser store for exactly the same TV!

The TV had just been reduced since last week, I'm a very happy bunny!

  • Costco are not a 'cheap and cheerful' retailer it is more about value for money. You are getting top quality goods for a good price. As the previous poster said, their branded electrical items are very good value - particularly as they come with a three year, no quibble, warranty which is worth a good £100 a shot. One major purchase a year easily covers the price of membership. Whenever I have compared prices on, say, a Sony TV, and taken into account the warranty, they simply cannot be bettered. Most of the major electrical items in my house are from Costco.

Kitchen and DIY products are brilliant. The food is superb (although tends to be in large packs) and they do really good gifts at Christmas. I know several people who will only ever buy their meat at Costco because it is such good quality. Also if you have a lot of parties or buffets you can't beat it - huge personalised cakes for £9.99.

On top of that, it is absolutely fascinating. You get all sorts of stuff that is only sold in America which has to be seen to be believed.

I'm lucky in that mine is an 'additional' card on my parents' business. If my friends want to buy there, I take them along on my card on the basis that they stick a couple of quid in a charity box. Anyone I've taken has been a complete convert and wants to know when I can take them again!

The only problem is that it is a fair distance to our nearest branch, although I believe a branch will open in Preston in the next year.

Also, if you care about this sort of thing, I've heard (from members of staff) that the staff are well paid for retail.
  • PS It is the only retailer I've been in where I've met the manager, on the shop floor, without complaining! He came along when I was looking at TVs (not trying to sell to me) and had a long chat about what I did and didn't like about the store.

All I know is they sell great value Maglite (torch) packs for about £18, and the birthday cakes mentioned above are not only good value for money, but also taste better than most supermarket rivals!!!

Oh, and yes they sell some pretty interesting stuff too!

However, when I last went I couldn't see any savings significant enough to warrant full membership, so maybe best to walk around and compare prices before spending on the membership fee!
  • A Very Good Store, Great Service ,great Products
    What Can I Say More?

  • when you think of the membership it is less than £3 per month. I have been a member of costco since it opened in aberdeen. If you have looked around once and havent seen anything that you like have another look in a couple of months time. Their products change all the time, my advise is if you see something you like there buy it because the chances are if you go back after a couple of weeks it is usually gone.
Well worth the money tyres, birthday cakes, childrens winter jacket love costco
  • I love it for Magners! 12x1pt bottles for £15.56 including the vat! They are £1.99 each at Morrisons!
    Waddle you do eh?
  • to be honest costco is quite dear for what it is your employer is best approaching makro as the cards are free and makro is 3 times the size of costco the only thing makro doesnt do is the nice birthday cakes but you can go to a bakery for them i guess. But makro do bedding quilts, food, washing powder and fabric contitioner ect.

    I hope this helps :)
