Warning - Tesco Click and Collect Charge 2016!

Options
Ive Just had this disapoining Email. I subscribe to delivery saver but I can see this being a big issue for many people

Dear Mr X
From early February 2016, we will be introducing a £2 delivery charge for Click+Collect orders under £30 at Tesco direct. This will help ensure we can continue to offer you the convenience of picking up your order from your chosen store at a time that suits you.
As a Delivery Saver customer, however, you will not be affected by these changes and will still be able to choose Click+Collect delivery for orders under £30 as part of your plan with no additional charge. Tesco Partners will continue to be excluded from Delivery Saver.
All customers will continue to enjoy free Click+Collect delivery for orders over £30 on Tesco direct. And there’s no change to home delivery options.
We will be in touch again with more information before these changes come into effect.
Thank you for shopping with Tesco.

    1. Ignore it, as it doesn't affect Delivery Saver customers
    2. If you are not a Delivery Saver customer, become one (but I suspect a charge will be made for this).
    3. Don't use Click & Collect
    4. If you do use Click & Collect, make sure it is for over £30

Thanks for the heads up. I think I remember other retailers starting to introduce charges for their version of C&C.

If the item is just under the £30 then you could add items to take it over the £30 to avoid the charge.

This is a good move for me. Since John Lewis and Amazon have introduced/ raised minimum charges it has stopped me impulse buying, now things get left in the basket until I have the minimum amount, and I often change my mind in the meantime. So I end up buying what I need as opposed to what I want ;)

Well that will stop me buying most things from Tesco Direct.

Well done Tesco. Your ongoing campaign to lose customers goes from strength to strength.
  • Retrograde step.
One wonders how much a click/collect actually SHOULD cost Tesco anyway.
I've had a few orders where my items have been sent to Tesco using a courier (Hermes) whilst the exact same item was available instore. Now, I've ordered click and collect to reserve those items as they've been a good price and to prevent seeing an empty shelf upon visiting, but surely it's not beyobd the wit of Tesco to have store stock put aside upon ordering (where available) and then replenish that shelf stock on their next warehouse delivery?
Paying a courier to deliver items to their own store just seems utterly ludicrous.

    Just typical Tesco incompetance.

The whole point of C&C from a retailers point of view is that it should cost them next to nothing. A HGV delivery visits the store from their warehouse every day. Just chucking a few customer orders on with the store delivery costs them zilch.

That's what I would have though, but all my Tesco direct orders have been delivered to the local Express via Yodel, despite there being a Tesco distribution warehouse about two miles away.

I don't know how it works, but was going to consider using it at some point for regular groceries.... but not at £2.

I've seen signs in the car parks and it looks like they put C&C stuff into a delivery van and a man sits with the van at certain hours .... but that's just how it looks like it must work.

There's a dedicated C&C parking spot beside their parked van.

This is for Tesco Direct, not groceries.
