The procedure for getting a passport is farcical. Everyone who was born here should be issued one automatically when they are born! Then every 5 years, (til you're 20,) you submit a photo to them, and they send you a new one.

Then you are issued a new one every 10 years thereafter... The charge should be no more than a tenner. There is no need whatsoever for the cost to be any higher than this.

Half the population never go overseas, so that would leave a huge number of otherwise unused controlled documents on the black market, which is clearly a dumb idea. The passport itself uses numerous high-tech security processes so isn't just a printout stuck in the post for a tenner. The fee also includes some contribution to maintaining the consular assistance services worldwide.

Award for the craziest suggestion ever. There's more than just being born here to be eligible for a British passport!

We have enough problems with immigration as it is, can you imagine how bad it would be if everyone knew all you had to do is drop a baby here for it to have automatic citizenship?

I believe that is how the American system works. Anyone born in USA is automatically an American citizen. I believe they have a problem with pregnant Mexican's running (waddling) over the border to give birth as that automatically makes the child an American.

I'm sure if the EU get their way it'll be lie that here too eventually. We'll all be citizens of the EU, not the UK.

Unless we make one of the terms that the EU-rocrats have to agree to let Donald Trump have sex with them ;)

Is the OPs username meant to be ironic?

However, Dr Cooper is pretty useless at the practicalities of life. ;)

I think its pretty obvious that you only fill those boxes in if you are applying on behalf of somebody else such as a child.

    Not exactly rocket science.

I think it only goes to show. Never underestimate who stupid some of the public can be!
