Vent: UK passport office - muppets

Sometimes the incompetence of government departments (or their creatures) is beyond comprehension.

I'm renewing my passport. Everything was quite straightforward until I got to the point of signing the declaration.

All this should need is a signature and a date. You'd think they couldn't really get that wrong, wouldn't you?

But wait!

There are two more boxes, one saying "relationship of applicant to intended passport holder" and one asking for the name of the applicant.

NOWHERE does it tell you what to put in these boxes if you are applying for yourself.

Bear in mind the following:

1) It's not always possible to decipher a signature
2) If you put something in a box which should be left blank they might return the form
3) If you don't fill in a box which should be filled it, they WILL return the form.

There is plenty of space to state whether or not they want these boxes filled in if you are applying for yourself, or to put a checkbox to say you are applying for yourself.

Why can they not make such a simple form unambiguous? :mad:

I have completed the forms on numerous occasions and one being done quite recently with ease I must add so not sure how you cannot complete a simple form here.

I find it simple. Sorry you are struggling.

I also found it really easy to complete a passport application.

The option to track it wasn't kept up to date for my application, only issue with mine.

So your rant about incompetence isn't actually about the government but your inability to fill forms out.....well done

In not so sure it's the passport office who are the muppets in this case OP.

UK passport office isn't affiliated with the gov passport office, they are a company set up to fleece unsuspecting ' Muppets' who fail to read the information correctly before the 'Muppets' hand over their cash!

I had no problems filling out the simple form a few months ago

Guessing you may be the type of person the PO loves so you use their check and send service

I'm not sure the OP is referring to that "scumpany", rather the real Passport Office.
