Any discounts on buying an iPhone 6S outright?

Suspect I already know the answer, but always worth checking... :D

I want to buy an iPhone 6S (new) outright as I'm happy with my dirt cheap sim-only contract. Haven't found anywhere cheaper than the official Apple store yet.

Does anyone know of any cashback/discounts at all? I'm guessing there aren't any as it's the latest model, but just in case - anything will help. :)

Still umming and ahhing over the size to go for. I want 128Gb as the ONLY reason I need to upgrade from my 4S after 3.5 years is that I've simply run out of space as iOS has increased in size... But I get grouchy at how much Apple charge for more memory as it's ridiculous!

    16Gb - £539
    64Gb - £619
    128Gb - £699

Same prices everywhere I've looked. If the price is fixed, I'll probably buy from John Lewis as they include a two year guarantee for free (better than the usual one year).

Unless it's a really big discount (unlikely) it's not worth sacrificing 2-years' Apple warranty (when buying directly from Apple) and getting pathetic 1 year instead.

FWIW... KRCS did offer the 6s with a 4% discount on Black Friday - and they too give the full 2 year warranty as an Apple VAR. Sadly nothing in the January sales.
  • Why would you need 128gb? Would it not be better to save some money and buy a 5s 32 GB and use icloud if needed?

I wouldn't get 32Gb. I currently have a 16Gb 4S and am completely out of space. I've trimmed down photos to a minimum and only have a few music albums.

I use an Ordnance Survey map app for hiking and that alone takes up over 2Gb (and this will increase as I add more map packs). I can't keep that data in the cloud as I don't have wifi in the wildnerness. :)

I also listen to more music on the go now and would like my music collection (28Gb) on it.

This phone lasted 3.5 years and still works fine, apart from the lack of space. I want my next one to last 4 years so don't want to be limited by space again.

64Gb is a must. I'm still debating the £80 for the extra 64Gb to get 128Gb. It's a disgusting amount for 64Gb of storage, but then it's only £20 a year over the four year life and would virtually guarantee that I don't run out of space again.

I think that iOS and apps will keep getting bigger steadily over time, so more storage at the start future proofs it a bit more. But, still debating 64Gb vs 128Gb.

Your photos are a red herring.
I have 8Gb card in my camera and it can take more than 1300 photos at the highest 14M quality. Why would anyone want to have permanently more than 100-200 photos in a phone and pay £20 p.a. for this?
Maps shouldn't take a lot of space either.

So, it's mainly apps, music and videos that eat into the memory.

BTW, AFAIK yet another place to buy an iPhone with 2-years' warranty is JL.

The SSD inside the 6s has more in common with a fast laptop than a mobile phone. Still doesn't make it cheap, but you can't compare it to, say, a £15 64GB USB 3 flash drive which is 3-5 times slower.

Carphone Warehouse have a discount code, EXTRA20, that gets you £20 off the phone. I'm going to buy the 64gb for £599 with it
