Hi Penny,
I hope you all had a nice Christmas.
I like your goals for 2018, all very achievable, but still a good challenge. I love that your holiday is one of your goals - it’s so important to have family time together.
Thanks chanie we had a lovely Christmas,i hope you have to.
Even though we are debt free I still want to have goals to keep us focused and on track. I love going on holiday and spending time with family so doing this is first priority.0 -
Good morning.
Christmas is over for another year, but it has been wonderful everyone is extremely happy and I have been very spoilt.
DH loved his night away in the hotel I bought him and MIL/FIL bought us a gift voucher for a champagne afternoon tea at the hotel which will be wonderful, breakfast is included so just the evening meal to pay for. Both children are very happy with there gifts and with having some extra money this year we were able to surprise them with some extra gifts they knew nothing about, they have had a rough few months and have coped so well with my diagnosis that I just wanted to spoil them.
:jI have booked our holiday, we are going to Andalucia for 1 week in the summer hols and I am so excited. it is paid for:D as I put the money to one side after I had paid off all the debt, we just need to save spending money. I'm hoping we wont need a huge amount as we are staying in a villa with its own pool , I also made sure that there is wifi for the kids. So we will mostly eat in the villa and buy local produce. I know the kids will love just playing in the pool all day.
So I need to update sig to change holiday to holiday spends, also need to add my clothes challenge as I have won a cashmere jumper on £bay for £9.85 with PP:D.
Finances done this morning and £10 added to savings as I sold an item on £bay+46p TT. I need to pop into town this afternoon as we all have cheques to pay in to bank, I also want to nip into a local shop that sells hand crafted items, as they are having a sale and I know they have some beautiful oak handmade beds, they are usually around £1000:eek:, but i'm hoping to get one in the sale to replace our 19year old bed frame that is held together with screws and blocks of wood as DH has repaired it so many times, hopefully if I buy something of quality it will last us the rest of our lives:), thankfully our mattress is only 4 years old and is a good quality memory foam one so doesn't need replacing yet. So this is where the PPi cheque is being spent but at least the money isn't being frittered away.
Need to also pop into a shop and get milk and gravy granules, but I have a few pounds in my purse to cover this.
TO DO LIST-
Tidy downstairs.
wrap £bay parcel and post.
Bank cheque.
Update sig.
Pop to shops.
Look at bed frames.
Have a great day xx0 -
Pleased you all had a nice Christmas and that OH likes his present. It was nice of your in-laws to give you a gift related to your hotel stay, that way, its extra special.
Its always nice to have a holiday booked so that you have something nice to look forward to. When we go on holiday, we always go self catering. I do prefer it, as I like the flexibility of being able to sort ourselves out (plus, its handy with young children). This may be a bit extreme, but we always take lots of food away with us on holiday - tubes of pringles, packs of crossiants, super noodles, bottles of squash, washing up liquid and a sponge. We went to Greece on holiday and found everything so much more expensive due to the weak £££ (bread was like £2 a loaf). We buy fresh food and eat out in the evenings, but taking food from home does save so much money (and means more spending money!!!!)0 -
The villa with pool sounds excellent. We have done that a few times, and as long as there is wifi then my boys love it too. We self catered in Asturias in the summer and the food cost was reasonable. Wine was very very reasonable.

Hooray you've booked a holiday
We've got a villa booked for 19 April, can't wait, going to Lanzarote for a change LOL- will only be our 17th visit!
One year, to save money on groceries, we took a suitcase full of food. It was way over the weight allowance but we weren't charged extra miraculously. It was great to open the case and fill the fridge. We took stuff like cheese, bacon, veg, salad stuff and fruit.
A new bed is always a good investment. We've just got a new one and it's so comfortable. Shamefully the old one was over 20 years old.
Well done on your cashmere bargain

Thanks for tips on taking bits with me, I will pack washing powder, dishwasher tablets and tea bags and probably a few other bits.
So I banked my cheque and I have bought a new beautiful oak bed and matching bedside cabinets as dh uses an old side table and I don't have one, a beautiful oak blanket box and an oak chest of drawer, all in the sale and this was the beauty of going to a local place instead of a big company I managed to get the owner down from £1200 to £1000 as I said I would buy and pay for it all there and then, I also persuaded him to throw in a beautiful fluffy bed throw for free:rotfl:. Thankfully we have a walk in wardrobe so didn't need to buy a wardrobe:eek:, I know I have spent a fortune but the quality is fantastic and will last us a long time and it is paid for and not put on credit which is a fantastic feeling, can't wait for it to be delivered next week but I now have to declutter our bedroom:eek:.
Also means there is no money leftover to go to savings:o.0 -
