Upgrading to Windows 10

Given that I cannot carry on realistically with xp and that I now need a better performing machine with so many ifs and buts regarding win 10......
I am rapidly coming to the probable conclusion that a good way forward might be to upgrade the hardware/new machine first and with win 7 then possibly then make a slow transition to win 10. However I am currently trying to convince myself that there is a good reason for the latter! No doubt support for win 7 will stop some time in the future and the next evolution of 10 might improve. At least there are a few months to decide on the latter course of action.
If that is my way forward where is a good place to get my hands on an official copy of win 7 to do a clean install or if I image or clone my current disk can I do an upgrade from xp to 7?0 -

Bin it and buy something else, it was a horribly slow cpu even when it was new. Plenty of second hand base boxes on the market for less than £100 that come with W7 that are far faster.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

My ZG5 runs Windows 7 Starter with no issues. Since the upgrade can be done at little financial cost, I would say go for it.0 -

There are enthusiasts who still find steam traction engines a thrilling means of vehicular conveyance.
To get to work I personally prefer to put the key in and start the engine rather than having to spend all morning shovelling coal in the boiler and working up a head of steam.
If you enjoy the journey and care less about getting to your destination then I'd agree with you.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0
