or rather not!
I used to be decisive.......yet there seem few pros and many cons. thanks for adding that info jivesinger.
Given the greater number of software packages installed that I have compared to hardware bits, I guess that is the difficult bit to answer. If I posted a list of them could anyone help on the aspect of compatibility? Many ar far from up to date versions but cost precludes updating them all, especially at the same time as updating components or PC.
Having had a look at what might be the most demanding bit of software in terms of hardware resources (AVS Video Editor) I am rather inclined to think I should be on a 8GB RAM and i5 3GHz+ processor to make the upgrade valuable. This is beginning to look costly......0 -
avoid windows 10 like the plague! it has ruined my computer and i am going to revert to previous windows. windows 10 keeps packing up and the laptop closing down.0

as posted here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=69848904&postcount=29 however surfsister has not bothered to update of answer that posting , so I think we will all have to ditch win 10 and revert back

If you had a spare disk drive, or the ability to run a virtual machine (eg. with something like VirtualBox), you could install the evaluation version of Windows 10 on that (it's the Enterprise version but that shouldn't make too much difference) and try installing your software... but that's a fair amount of palaver, and if you did buy Windows 10 you'd need to install it all again.0 -
when you upgrade , win 10 lists any software that is non compatible and the ability to continue of go back , that is better than any outdated webpageSave a Rachael

It doesn't allow you to see Heathrow Terminal 5 either. Windows 10 may not be perfect but perhaps you are exaggerating a bit. Still back to Win 3.1 should resolve your problems.0 -

but ,,,
we are going around in big circles you cannot UPGRADE win xp to win 10 , you need to make a clean install.(but that topic has now been killed) and as the software any software that old may very well not run on win 10 , a check needs to be done with the distributors , if it says vista/xp/win 7/win8.*/win 10 it will , but if it says win7/win8/win10 then it won,t
like Stephen fry says "knowbody knows"

You can upgrade the machine, because it will end up with a newer operating system that's in support.
The only thing you can't do is an 'upgrade installation' which for windows 7/8.x would keep the existing software and data - as I said originally, it would need to be clean install from XP
But the machine would still be 'upgraded' at the end of the process.0 -
