ok , you tell niftydigits he is wrong
I take it he/she doesn't like being corrected or is it a case that Nifty is right and MS is wrong?

oh look a onboard vid card on a laptop use no memory ,,,,,,,,,,

we are talking very marginal here , and bedsit bob when he stated "its on my tablet" was not referring to a x86/64 iso

perhaps the OP would like to return and explain "how" he opened the file ? was it from an iso file or a pendrive/DVD
, if it was from the former

a: its not a win xp upgrade path
b: whilst running xp with 1 gig of memory , there would not be 1 gig available to run the proogramme

As I pointed out, that laptop can be upgraded to 2GB of RAM.

and a clean install with a new serial number can be used , but NOT an upgrade

That's a separate issue, to what I was talking about, which is whether Windows 10 will run on the OP's laptop.

the page you refer to states clearly that this is an upgrade from 7/8 and not win xp

the op has simply stated that the file cannot be opened , they have not stated what program , they have used to open it?

also worth noting is that although a tablet may very well run win 10 , it uses a different version than the 32/64 bit systems

The Windows 10 tablets run the same Windows 10 as other laptops/desktops, the only recent Windows tablets that were different were those that ran Windows RT (which was basically Windows 8 on ARM processors). Although Windows RT received some Windows 10 features, they cannot be upgraded to Windows 10.

I find Windows 8 onwards runs ok on Atom/1GB devices whereas Vista/7 struggled.

BOB , the OP has said he downloaded it to UPGRADE his machine , ie to upgrade it from win xp to win 10 this CANNOT be done!!!

the OP has now deserted this thread , so until he returns we will never know if he was wanting a free upgrade (from xp) or indeed he has gone out and bought a win 10 licence and intends to do a clean install

however his words "I have just downloaded a 3 g file and it won,t open" lead me to believe that they are trying to upgrade the machine from win 10

in your link , it states that the upgrade can be performed from win 7 or 8-1 but win 7 has to have sp1 installed

win 7 SP1 does not run on a win xp machine

OMG does that mean that my Samsung NC10 with 1GB of memory is lying to me when it says it is running Windows 10 Pro 32 bit?

Guess what? That doesn't have separate vid memory either and it runs quite happily.

were you running win 7/8 or did you buy a win 10 licence? , as early versions of this came with win xp?

read back thru the thread , I newer stated that 1 gig of memory was not enough , I challenged the fact that you cannot do an UPGRADE from win xp

other posters suggested to upgrade the memory , at that point I agreed that more memory would be helpful on such a marginal unit

I had installed Win 7 (purchased licence) and it upgraded from there.

I bought mine in 2009 and upgraded the Windows version almost immediately to Win 7. Although I did cheat just before Win 10 came out and upped it from Home Premium to Pro to get Win 10 Pro instead of standard. Had no reason to touch the memory as it was fine with what it had and what I use it for.

Extra memory IS useful but not required.
