Saturday 2nd Jan - What Small DFW-Style Things Will You Be Doing Today?

I always use 'old' milk for scones if I have it, for preference, as they rise better - something to do with the increased acidity making the baking powder work better. If I have only fresh milk I will often add a squeeze of lemon juice for the same effect. 4 pints is rather a lot to use though.
For the bananas, what about Nigel Slater's chocolate muscovado cake:

It is seriously gorgeous!
OMG - that sounds fantastic. Thanks so much!
Banana cake, scones, batter and rice pudding tomorrow then! It's a plan

After a shower and some chicken soup to eat I felt well enough to go to the cinema so we used our unlimited cards to see Joy. It felt so good to be out of the house! I had an overwhelming urge for some ice cream so had a little tub. I wouldn't usually buy anything from the cinema but I did use my unlimited card to get 10% off. It tasted so good! Pre-LBM I wouldn't have thought twice about buying one but nowadays I get pleasure from knowing it is even more of a treat. Ice cream is obviously the way forward after being under the weather

Princess - I think it's good to treat yourself every so often. Especially if you've been poorly.
Today is OH's last day off before heading back to the office. Bit sad but we have all had a lovely Christmas so time to get on. One thing I'm keen to adopt this year for my sanity is trying to do nice things more often. I don't tend to anymore as with the combination of working a lot and trying to pay off debt it's always something of an after thought. I want to plan one thing a month to look forward to. So this will take some thought.
Things I used to enjoy, going to national Trust places, days out. But having given up a car and now as members of a car hire thing Zipcar the cost of hiring a car for the day always puts me off. Ridiculous to even bother with the membership really (of both the car hire and national Trust! )
Any suggestions welcome.
Have a great Sunday all
