So it's all glamour here again. Couldn't be smurfed to prise myself out of bed and go to ParkRun this morning. Will run alone later maybe. Lazing around in my nightwear watching Sherlock.

    *
Need to pop to Supermarket for a couple of things. And just to get out of the house for a bit.

    * Collected £200 debt from OH.
I paid for something on my credit card for the extra Section 75 consumer protection. (Link)

    * Homemade fancy coffee made with condensed milk.

For Firefox or Ice Dragon users I recommend installing Lazarus. We all know the frustration of writing a post on here only to have the computer eat it and having to start writing it again:

    (1)
You can quickly and easily download the free Lazarus Form Recovery 2.3.1. Add On. Then if your post goes AWOL you can just right click the blank form where the post should be and click Recover Text and, abracadabra, it'll restore what you wrote.

To install this very tiny helpful doo-dah:

*Click on the 3 horizontal lines in the corner of your browser screen.
    *Click on Add Ons.
*In the Search box type "Lazarus". You will see "Lazarus: Form Recovery" comes up.
    *Click Install.
    *That's it.
    *Restart Firefox.

It should take less than a two minutes to do this.
Now when you lose a post right click the blank form where the post has vanished from, click Recover Text and, you'll get your post back. This will work on most forms on the internet, not just on MSE.

If you don't have Firefox you can get it free here. (Link)

    (2)
The other useful things about the Lazarus Add-On is that you can use it to write posts on here more quickly. For example, if I want to add my long list of links that I post every day I don't have to go back to yesterday's thread, find the list and copy and paste it in. I can just start a new post, right click on the blank form, Click Recover text and click on any of my recent posts that'll pop up before my very eyes. I can then edit that post if I want to.

    Hello Frugal Friends,
Slowly getting back to normal here after all the festivities.Enjoyed reading through everyone's posts this morning. Welcome to new people. It's always friendly & supportive on here. I don't have any debts now, except for the mortgage, but having been a big spender in the past, I find regular posting on here really helps keep me focussed on the now financially-savvy me! Anyway, a very few things for today:
*Took Christmas decorations down. Decluttered decorations box as I went along & packed everything carefully so nothing needs to be replaced next year. Tree now back outside on courtyard & treated to a bucket of water. Hope it will be fit & well enough to be brought inside again for a few more Christmases yet. Christmas cards bagged up for my Mum as she will use them for crafts.
*Quick house clean & bins - minimal products & washable cloths, as usual.
*Last of the cheese mountain for lunch - a melted camembert with pancetta. Used up crackers for dipping, plus toast fingers as end of loaf starting to go a bit stale.
*Washed hair & let it dry naturally saving a bit of electricity,
*Brisk walk to postbox to post thank-you letters. Most of them had 1st class stamps on & it occurred to me that with today being Saturday, if I couldn't be ar*ed to get them posted in time for the box being emptied at 9.30a.m, then I might as well have only used 2nd class stamps. Chap on our road up a ladder taking down icicles & sleigh from eaves. Felt thankful our biggest task was doing the tree!
*Chinese take-away for a treat tonight. Am pleased to report that this will be part-funded by the £9 underspend on this week's grocery budget & the extra £6 I've just found out we're getting refunded on mr f's old EE account. Pre-LBM, takeaways were funded much like anything else......on overdrafts, cards, whatever.....certainly rarely our own money. We have very few takeaways now & enjoy them much more as a consequence. Pre-LBM, we had at least one a week. Extremely calorific & an expensive way to feed ourselves.
*Checked online banking to see if the said refund plus another one we're expecting had actually appeared in our account. Not yet, but should be next few days.
*Rounded down balance to PAD a stray £1 into our Car Fund.
*Did a big load of Toluna quick-click surveys (sponsored content), which added a nice wodge of points onto my total.
*Talk to mr f about ebay. Apparently we've been sent unlimited free listings until the end of January. I'd like to get as much stuff photographed & listed asap, as once the page is there, we can re-list stuff indefinitely. He wants to try & sell a stash of comics he's collected.
*NSD - all free leisure. Watching 2nd half of movie we started yesterday, & last part of a recorded tv series, reading library book, maybe knitting.
*Might make a start on sorting out new calendar & diary. Otherwise, will do this tomorrow.
*Make a list of things I could usefully do in town tomorrow. We'd planned a cave-side walk, but weather forecast looks to be very soggy, so we'll need an alternative little outing.
I think that will be it for today. Enjoying mr f's last 2 days off. He's back at work on Monday, which means I'll be back to my regular routines........which will include getting off to a flying start with money saving.
    Have a nice day, everyone.

  • La E if I remember rightly way back to 2010! (when we became df) I think I saved £1500 emergency fund and then once I'd hit that target I then set up piggy banks for various things. It is hard to *spend* some of that £1500 on needed things - ins/tax/repairs etc but I knew if it wasn't there I'd be scrambling and then after that I never needed to worry about these things as I divided what they had cost me into 12 monthly payments and just saved so each year they rolled round the money was in my account IYSWIM?

    Morning folks,

Thanks to Dawn for starting the thread. Hugs to those who need them and hello to all new posters.

I decided early this morning not to bother with New Years resolutions as they never stick. Instead, I am focusing on where I want to be in December.

So, by December, I want to be:
    • at least 4 stone lighter (more would be appreciated) :o:o:o
    • free of credit card debt
    • cleared a chunk off my credit card
    • started on the road to CIMA

Of course there are steps that I need to take to get to where I want to be this year, but it is a bit more managable this way :o

Better make a start with today's tasks.

    Today I have/will:
    • meals from stores
    • checked bank - no change
    • checked investment & re-invested
    • need to update sig
    • need to pay my tax bill (then i know it is done for another year, and stop panicking when i see their reminder adverts)
    • read papers online
    • not going out, so planning a NSD
    • need to phone up and cancel my aa membership - i have budgeted for paying for replacement cover this month although it t is not due till next month
    • need to list a couple of things on fleabay, im not expecting them to sell, but you never know
    • need to sort through paperwork & file it away

Think that is about if for me, better get a coffee and make a start

    Take care all,
    Candy xxx

Sucess !! re-quoted from breadown cover for AA & Asda to get an idea of what I would like to pay and phoned the AA and said that I loved the cover, helpfulness of the patrol folk, speed etc but I just could not afford the £30 odd per month. I said that I would like to also pay yearly (to budget better), so the guy checked on his system and the best price was £165. He had to transfer me to another department to activate this who were able to get this down to £150 :D:D. And I remembered to ask them to start my new membership from 01/02 when the old one runs out. I have transferred the £15 to my credit card :D

I have also printed out this years budget - despite the increase in housekeeping, I *could* still be debt free this year.

*Successful trip to supermarket. Bought some 29p bread and rolls. They had loads of it. If the freezer hadn't been full I'd have bought loads.

    * Bought a £1 pizza and topped it with left over lamb.

    * Was quite reserved and only spent £3 on cheese. That's restrained for me.

    * Going to bake cherry cake in a minute before cherries go off. Haven't baked a thing since I stepped-up at work in Sept. OH has done nearly all the cooking lately. Scales weren't working. Battery was on its last legs. Heated in my hands for a couple of minutes to rejuvinate it.

    * Cleaned kitchen with Stardrops and washable cloths.

    * Finish a myriad of wee cyber-jobs listed on my PC that I've been avoiding. :p

    * Backup Finances spreadsheet. Can't afford to lose it.

Hello everyone :) thank you Dawn for starting us off today :)

    Princess - I hope you're feeling better.

Ally - The stress management post was quite good, thank you for that :)

Jonno - Do you mean the "Damp Traps"? we use them as our house is old and created quite a bit of damp. I get mine from £1land 2 for £1 :)

LegoMum - hope the sore throat goes away soon

Cally and Debbie - Welcome to the forum :) everyone is so nice on this thread and always happy to help :)

    ClootiesMum - Welcome back :D

Candy - good news on the AA :D

Had a lovely New Year and even managed to get some sleep!! We stayed at our friends house and when her baby woke up I didn't even hear him. However it was same old last night, didn't get off for ages, up at 2.45 then took ages to drift off then it seemed like 10 mins later the alarm went off at 6.30. I snoozed it until 7.30 as I felt sick and didn't want anything to eat anyway (had a few crackers and did actually feel a bit better after that) and just slapped on a little bit of make up so I don't look dead!
Found an online diary that is password protected so I wrote in that last night (thought it would save paper and get paranoid leaving things laying around not that hubby would read it.)
Anyway enough of me rabbiting on yet again!!

    Today's list:
    • FPL
    • Lucky Phone
    • B/D from stores
    • Healthy and low spend lunch at work (couldn't be bothered/had no time this morning)
    • Survey/s
    • Check MS's
    • Stop stressing/worrying about things out of my control
    • Get off internet at 10.30pm and go to bed and read
    • Blog post
    • 101 things (thanks Candy for reminding me :))
    • Enter a few comps
    • Read Martin's email (just realized I've not done this yet )

    Think that is about it!
Hope you're all having a good day :)
    Read my diaryHere :)
