Do you have any reason for even considering asking "the internet" about what is, really, a very sweet message on a card, from your mum?
It would never have occurred to me to wonder about it, let alone ask people's opinon. But then, I love my mum, and she loves me, and neither of us have any doubts about it. :/

I have a feeling the card was to OP's boyfriend from his mum ;)

OP I actually think that if you are worried about this then it's you who has the problem not his mum!

It's a few words written in a card, why worry. Do you have other instances that concern you?

Its my sons 20th birthday in a few days.

    This:
On your birthday a heartfelt "thank you" for just being mine!
    lots of love from
    Mum and Dad xxx

... is something i'd like to say but of course i wouldnt. He sees himself as his own person now (which of course he is) but in my heart he is still my baby boy!

I just see the person who has written this inside of the card hasnt quite mastered the art of 'letting go'.

Just after some unbiased opinions. Is this a strange thing for a mother to write in her grown up son's birthday card (punctuation is as written)?

    I see it in a proud,loving way.

I had to read the comments to see other ways to look at it.

A generous heart, loads of affection & possibly a sip or two too much christmas spirit to double check she's not triggering her beloved child's paranoia.

She's a mum. We get things a bit wrong sometimes. (Indeed for years our place seems to be In The Wrong, even whilst at the wheel of the taxi.)

Love her anyway & toss the card if its stressing you.

I don't think there is anything odd or weird about this; it just sounds like a mom who is besotted with her son. Many are.

As several people have said, there is a mother-son bond in some families that no-one can penetrate. And some moms are quite clingy! Our daughter's boyfriend's mom is a bit clingy. (Single mom for 13 years, doesn't work, no real close friends, and very little family; just a brother and another younger son (20,) who moved out in 2013.) But she adores our daughter fortunately.

I don't envy a girl who is dating a man who has a besotted mother though! My husband was close to his mother but she wasn't obsessed. Then again, she had a career and lots of friends.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

not really - her son is "her" son. I'd be looking at it like "thanks for just being you" kind of thing.

OP stop over thinking it, your mind will take you to some pretty strange places. Just think of it as a throw away comment.
