What do you make of this?

Just after some unbiased opinions. Is this a strange thing for a mother to write in her grown up son's birthday card (punctuation is as written)?

On your birthday a heartfelt "thank you" for just being mine!
lots of love from

Is she a mum who doesn't like her son's partner maybe?

I think it's the sort of thing my Mum would think - if not write in a card.

I'm grown up but I think she still thinks I'm about 12, based on the advice she still gives me!

Why does it bother you ?

Must be something more than just a birthday card ?

It's not something I would write but I don't see a problem with it. And maybe she's just not very good with placing inverted commas and exclamation marks.

I read it as she is proud that he is her son.

TBH my first thought was why mine and not ours when it was signed from Mum and Dad? Then started thinking more and found it a bit strange.

Same here. And she did say ' for just being mine'. It wasn't as if she said 'being just mine'.

It's different, but I don't think it's strange as in weird strange.
I read it as an " I'm glad your my son" type of message. If my parents wrote it, I'd groan, then swiftly move on, mainly because I don't do sentimentality.
Unless there's an agenda you're not sharing?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I wouldn't worry about that. When I buy cards and presents for my in-laws, I don't write 'to Mum and Dad'. I tag them with their proper names, even though it's from their son and me, it's me that always writes them out. I hope that makes sense lol I'd rather my OH wrote them out and write Mum and Dad on them, but he won't.

Yes, I would put 'ours' but a lot of people speak for themselves only when they write cards etc.

Perhaps Dad is not one for expressing such things.
