Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

Ooh Floss - super idea, thanks.
I have helped to minimise the litter around the village, there didn't seem to be too much, but I did get to chat to some lovely people, and we have decided to do it once a quarter.
OH and I popped out to feed some cats and happened to see a sign for an office chair for sale outside a house we passed, being in need of one as the current one is broken and shedding plastic bits all over the floor which get walked around the house. This was unused and leather - cream mind you - any top tips for keeping it clean? And only £20 which went to the animal charity the lady raises money for. Super outcome all round.
Friends round for supper this evening, and everyone wants indian takeaway, I will go and collect as it saves us a fortune in delivery. I am also being more sensible in my eating and I have lost 3 of the 21 pounds I would like to lose. Slowly and by upping the exercise and reducing the snacks and replacing them with extra veg which I love.
I went shopping in aldeee yesterday and noted that the large vine ripen d tomatoes are better value than the ones on the special offer. We still have to keep an eye how shops price things.
Better wash before people start arriving!

That's what's so great about this site ,you ask a question, and almost straight away some one has found a solution for you. Well done Floss
:) on sorting out Iamsalt's problem with her chair and what a bargain that chair was, well done .
I am at my DDs today as her and her OH are up in Norwich picking up DGS Ben from Uni for his summer recess so I am looking after the other three boys and two dogs.
I will probably minimising her recycling for her as I shall get the boys to go around with a recycling bag and collect all the paper/cardboard that seems to collect in odd parts of her house. DGS Ben will no doubt be bringing home a pile of washing to be done so I shall be getting the existing washing basket as empty as I can this morning
We shall be having a late make-do brunch shortly as all of the boys had a bit of a lie -in as they had been out all day yesterday.
I forgot to bring my knitting so no 'mending' to be getting on with today
Hope everyone has a good day what ever they are doing

I am having an epic minimise today, getting ready to move house and don't want to take the excess with us.
I have minimised games to friends and family as my kids have outgrown them.
More stuff sorted and added to CS pile ready for the morning.
A few items sold on eb@y, others relisted and more stuff ready to be listed.
Electrical cables sorted and minimised.
Last night's dinner was all YS stuff and thankfully, other half has talked me out of going out for a pub dinner today and instead we are making do with food in pantry and putting money saved towards new house diy.
I will try Anand get round to a bit of mending tonight, need to see some buttons and I want to try converting an old top into a bag.
Have a great MMM day everyone.🎄PAYDBXMAS21 #11 £11,300/£11300

Hi everyone
It is a wet day here in Northern Ireland and I don't mind one wee bit as it saves having to water the garden and veg plot
I have been taking it easy today by sitting down and reading through all of the lovely useful and interesting posts. I have started a little notebook and am writing down tips so thank you everyone. This is such a lovely place to be as it is my kind of thing:) Well I have worked so hard these past two days and have achieved loads so that is why I am deserving a good rest today:) I have a few health problems as so many of us have and over did it but I am feeling happier now. I was very interested in hearing about the konmarie method as I had never heard of it until on here. I went onto A**zon last week through top****back of course
and ordered the book Spark Joy. It really has inspired me and I got stuck in here. I have reclaimed the little spare bedroom which was a dumping ground for so much stuff and I have bags and bags of stuff for the local charity shop which we can drop off tomorrow. My dh went up into the loft and brought stuff down which I did not even realise we had. Lots of craft stuff and wool and patterns and threads etc and two brand new irons and a brand new toaster!!!!!!! We moved here 5 and 1/2 years ago from a 4 bed house to a 2 bed bungalow with very little space for storage and it was a week before Christmas and snowing heavily. My dh and son put a lot of stuff in boxes up into the loft and we just never thought about it I think. I have been taught a valuable lesson though on the finances, and am feeling more in control now, and will not be spending like I did before for sure. The spare room was cleaned and polished and looks a restful little room now and I will be able to sit in it when I want to escape the football on tv and other programs I don't like to watch
as my dh has the right to watch what he enjoys and he will not have me muttering in his poor ears any longer when they are on lol I have donated two bags of odds and ends of wool to my local craft group in church which will be most welcome I know as they knit for charity, and knit and crochet lots of little blankets for babies. I have been sorting out paperwork which is now sorted better and I have gone through our clothes and books too so more stuff for the charity shop. My poor head has felt so cluttered it was seriously getting to me and now though tired the cluttered feeling has gone
I do not need to buy clothes for myself or footwear etc. and can see the things I love easier now and that spark joy:) Thank you all so much for such a lovely place to be and I will be back again

Welcome Maragret 54 another member to join our happy band of MMM's. I now and again pop into the discussion time board, but people get so heated and at times downright nasty ,life is far too short to be like that.
We are all on this earth to hopefully make life happier for our fellows so I think we all try to give a 'virtual ' helping hand when we can.
Today the sun has just come out and I have got my DDs wahing blowing on her whirlygig for her, and her and my son-in-law are driving back from Norwich with my much loved grandson Ben for his summer holidays from Uni so life just gets better by the minute for me:):) Not done much in the way of MMMing today but I'm so looking forward to seeing Ben. Especially as my eldest DGS Danny is working away in NYC, Hope to see him when he gets back from his travels

Thank you Jackie for a lovely warm welcome:) Yes life is much too short for rudeness I agree Jackie. I do not like being anywhere near that kind of behaviour. I hope you enjoy seeing Ben and Danny later when he returns. We love a Tuesday when we spend time looking after our little grandson who will be 2 and 1/2 soon
They lighten up our days don't they? I feel so much joy the morning I open my eyes and know we are driving up to our dear daughter's home later:) and to know we are building memories.

Hi all
Had a lovely day today. Up early to finish some work off before a long day tomorrow, then a nice breakfast and a long walk with the pooch. After that OH, friend and I went to an open garden not far from my home which was fantastic (I sampled a chocolate mint plant!!), then a stop off for tea and sandwiches in the van (we have a camper van) and now home with a g+t
Making do: food from the fridge and freezer and made lemon and coriander houmous.
Mend: nothing today, I don't tend to mend much...
Minimised: I sorted out the rubbish and recycling, does that count?!
Hope everyone is having a great evening.0 -
Welcome Margaret, sounds as though you will fit right in here X
Floss - thanks for all the tips, you are very efficient. Luckily I called my mum and mentioned that you had recommended the scotchguard and she remembered she had some (she is a bit of a hoarder so has most things, finding them is usually the issue) so will come over shortly for a natter and bring it with her . I can get that done tomorrow befor OH sits on it with his newish blue jeans on!
Jackie, how lovely you can help out Dd and Dgs's so much, I am lucky to live close to my mum, and while often it's me helping her out, she helps me too when I need it.
Catch up soon, hugs to all

Evening everyone, hello to any new folk on the thread, always lovely to have company
Nothing much to report regarding MMMing, just really popped by to read what everyone has been up to and say hello.
Have had a horrible cold for almost a week now so haven't felt like doing much. On the plus side, haven't eaten much so supplies have lasted longer than usual. Feeling a bit better this evening so hopefully on the mend.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86
