mummy2threeboys, you can darn a sock that hasn't worn right through by sewing into the area as though you are weaving. You stitch across one way then turn 90 degrees and stitch the other way, weaving in and out of the first stitches, until you have covered over the area. Hope this helps.2025 Fashion on the ration

This comes under the mending bit if the thread, loosely, I found today in Wilkinsons a packet of proper DARNING NEEDLES for the princely sum of £1. They are sturdy with a good sized 'eye' for wool to go through and very good value so I've got one in the sewing box now. I also found a pack of mixed size safety pins in silver for £1 so I got one of those too, such a good place for bits and pieces at reasonable prices.0

Hi...can i ask how you mend jeans with broken zips ?? do you replace them ? do you need to use a sewing machine due to the thickness of the fabric ?
Many thanks:)Best headline ever on local paper??

Make do and mend....... not done any mending today, make do well I had some belly pork, cooked it in the pressure cooker with onion, galic and tomato. Well seasoned. We had half for supper tonight and the other half is in the freezer against another supper.
We grow as many of our veg as we can, Last night I took the outside leaves from a lettuce, washed then and used them in a salad.
Replacing a broken zip, you need to put a new zip in, you could really do it on a sewing machine, a machine will take it no problem.0 -

I'm afraid I didn't do it properly so I'm not the right person to ask :rotfl:
The zipper had come away from the zip on both jeans (I bought two pairs of the same jeans) - I just removed a few of the prongs with pliers from the other side meaning I can now slide the zipper on easily.
Not the best way, but I can now wear them again!
I'm sure someone else will be along with a much better way of doing it :T0 -
JACKIE one of the nicest things I've found using lemon curd is to mix it through plain Greek yoghurt and stir into that some nice fresh blueberries, it's a nice breakfast, it's a nice pudding and it's a nice cake filling too but you'd have to keep the cake in the fridge.0

Hello everyone, not been on the thread since our holiday. We had a lovely time and the weather was perfect, made plenty of use re bus passes. Didn't make use of the sea life centre tickets but these will keep until we go to Norfolk in October.
Welcome to all the newbies and keep posting its all about team work and support.
I've not been too well, I had a bug and being diabetic it knocked me for six re eating and insulin thank god for flat lemonade. I think little man brought it home from nursery. DD finishes work at the end of the month baby is due in July so the need for my services with little man will be adhoc.
Mending: SIL back pack strap, knitting for soon to be arrival.
Make Do: using up food from freezer and cupboards, I've managed to buy a lovely Pram/buggy in very good condition all washed and ready for the baby.
Minimise: Sold a buggy little man had outgrown, this also minimised the amount of money I had to spent getting a different one for the new baby.
Hugs to those who need one x
Jackie I'd 2nd lemon curd in a cake. Sorry I can't help on the sardine front I've never bought any, just don't fancy them. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0
