What a wasteful society we live in. I had an item delivered to our local Tesco Express store using up my BONUS POINTS, by the way the scheme to double them up FINISHES on the 26th June, and when it came it was in an enormous cardboard plain box. When I opened it up my item in it's original box and all the packaging inside that was sat small in the middle with masses of scrunched up brown paper round it. This morning I have flattened out the brown paper and rolled it up and now have 2 really useful rolls of wrapping paper which will keep me going for a couple of years, I also have a very sturdy cardboard box should I need one. Such a wasteful thing when the original box the item came in is sturdy and the packing inside was very good too, madness!!!0

DGS Jack is doing his History GCSE this morning so I am going to make him a large Victoria sponge cake as a treat for him and some Melting Moments biscuits for the other boys.
Just remembered I have some left over pastry in the freezer When ever I make pastry I always seem to have a bit left over so I wrap it tightly in clingfilm and freeze I have about three or four bits in the bottom of the freezer so they will be retrieved and I will probably make a plate of jam tarts as the oven will be on anyway.
I went to the shops yesterday and spent a whopping £27 odd to restock on essentials only but won't need to go near any shops for at least a fortnight. Hopefully with the Tennis starting soon I can enjoy it instead of trailing round shops :)I seemed to have run out of cleaning essentials all at once plus I stocked up on fresh stuff and a big box of UHT milk so I am quite happy to carry on using up what I have indoors
Lunch today will be a tin of garden pea and mint soup that I can't ever remember buying as I make my own soups as a ruleI think it arrived via my DD when my DGS brought his box of left over stuff home from Uni at Easter. So that will be used up with some crackers.
I had a root around in the back of the cupboards and found all sorts of strange things to eat A bottle of grape jelly that DD brought home from the USA last year I think I will use it as a filling in a sponge cake as a change from strawberry jam.
I seem to have two unopened pots of lemon curd as well for some reason. So will have to think of ways of using them up rather than just tarts any ideas will be gratefully received.
Its quite inspiring trying to think of ways of using up bits stuck at the back of the cupboards. My trouble is being a bit on the small size 5'4" on tiptoes if things get shoved on the top sleves out of the way they tend to get forgotten as I can't actually see themunless I stand on a chair and I'm not keen on doing that with my ancient limbs
But I got the small step ladder out and retrieved a lot of bits from the top shelf thats going to be minimised if possible this week.So its going to be an interesting menu
:):) I have 9 tins of sardines for some reason Looks like a few sardine salads or pates are going to be on the menu
:):)Maybe a quiche
I wonder what jacket spud and sardines taste like:):)
I will minimise all of this food as my friend and I have a wager on it, and whats left in cash in my food purse at the end of this month will go into my Race for Life fund so its a win-win things
Not a lot of mending to do as I have got into the habit of mending stuff straight away if I can, although I noticed Mikey's swimming shorts were looking like they needed mending on Sunday so I may take my sewing kit round there this afternoon
Right time to get baking first before it gets too hot
have a good day chums what ever you are doing

JackieO - I've got a recipe for a bread and butter pudding that uses brioche, lemon curd instead of butter and raspberries - it's yummy! Let me know if you are interested.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
-
Jackie o- you can make a loaf cake using the jar of lemon curd. if you google "lemon curd cake" I think you will find a recipe. I have made it before - its very easy all in one mix and very nice.0

JackieO try using a spoonful of grape jelly in gravy to give it a shine, or use wherever you would use redcurrant jelly. It's also nice instead of any jam.

Hi Chums thanks for the ideas keep them coming I will get this absurd food mountain down :)The bread and butter pudding sounds good, also the loaf cake. I found a tin of apple and blackcurrant filling in the cupboard and topped it with some crumble nix and that cooked while I was cooking a Victoria sponge cake, so pudding sorted for a couple of days or so.
DGS Jack just came in with his pal from their exam and already half the sponge cake has vanished Teenage boys have got hollow legsI have a box of melting moments biscuits for the other two when they come in from school.
any recipes are always gratefully received, especially when it means I can use up some of the stocks a bit

Another good day today. Tax return in the post. Minimised my stack of birthday cards I keep handy, my brothers birthday tomorrow. Minimised a huge amount of packaging for the stuff I'm taking to my friend when we go on holiday. Mind you, the weight is fine, just the space in the suitcase to put it in is the problem. I'll be taking one pair of knickers and a t shirt at this rate!
Mowed the lawn eventually, (I so hate gardening!). Took me 10 minutes to mow it, then strim the edges but the strimmer went wrong. I managed to mend the strimmer, so go me!
Making do- again I forgot to get something for dinner for me, so it's tuna and cheese on toast tonight (I think we have some tuna, really hope so!)0 -
Hi would love to join in please. Sounds like my kind of thread x
Just a quick one, will try and catch up
Making do. Found 2 pots of some random stew in freezer left over from hubbys winter packed lunches, added some more veg to make a family size stew and the last of yorkie puds frozen from last week to dip in.
Mending, and making do . Took up children curtians that where too long (Didn't tuck behind the bed , had to keep pulling the bed out) They are about 10 years old , no thermo backing left but not holey or anything.
This talk of lemon curd oh yum, Must make some! Does it freeze, last batch went off because I didn't eat it fast enough!
Chat soon , must put wee ones to bed!Compers challenge 27/70
