Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2016

Good Morning all ,I am still eating from my stocks at the moment and tonight I have fish and salad for dinner.Lunch will be a cheese omelette and breakfast was coffee as I am still full up from last nights birthday meal for DGS Mikey.
I think I will make up a jelly from one I found in the cupboard and that will do for a day or so for pudding I also found a packet of creme caramel which I will make up this morning. I am determined to use as much as I can from what I already have in stock.Doing my utmost to stay away from shops and supermarkets this month
Started a new charity blanket yesterday and have done three squares already from wool stash.Locally on the Gillingham business park a new Poundland store has opened up, and they have some nice wool in there I bagged a ball of plain white 100gms for a quid which is good enough for the blanket edging. Lots of reasonable stuff in there as well as they took over from a Family Bargains store and it had been quite dark and dingy ,but the newly opened one is bright and clean, and the staff are really cheerful which makes a nice change.I shall definitely be going back there
so Making do with my existing food in stock and mending (I guess you could call knitting a 'mending', and minimising I have a bag of clothes that are too big for me which will go to the charity shop later today as I had a bit of a clear out
Onwards and upwards chums

Afternoon all
Hope everyone is well
Still haven't managed to minimise the rotten cold and fuzzy head I'm currently suffering with.
Man came to replace drain covers today so they all look brill now and don't have rusty holes in anymore.
All the ironing is done and just needs putting away.
Sorted a load of stuff to go to the CS last night along with a load of rubbish and recycling we managed to bag up.
Dh had to mend the hedge trimmer for me while he was having his lunch as I caught the teeth in a metal frame the neighbour had leaned against her side and bent it. Can go and finish the hedge now.SPC~12 ot 124

Hi everyone.
Minimise - food stocks. Breakfast, lunch and tea all came from what I had in.
Make do. - made chicken chowmein for tea and was missing a few ingredients but managed to improvise using alternatives.
Mend - sanded out a scuff on the plastic bumper of my car after my little mishap a couple of weeks ago. With the touched up paint and some restorative polish on the bumper it's not perfect but its significantly better. Almost as good as new.

Hiya All
So glad to be back reading all you inspirational folks!!
Jackie O - I love how you keep on setting yourself challenges!!! I now have no store cupboards and it feels a bit wierd. However, do have a lot of my spices and oils with me as the packers would not put those into storage (understandably) so am still able to make tasty food.
Am currently in Cornwall - house and dog sitting for my friend who is on holiday (this was arranged last year). Have fed myself of £8 this week - including replacing ingredients of her that I have used. Am going to splash out a bit to make her a nice meal to come home to - i.e. some nice beef in oyster sauce (have carried the oyster sauce with me!)
misstara - turn out turn out and then turn out again!!! The amount of rubbish that I am sure I have moved with me I am sure will be colossal once I have unpacked! I keep on chucking stuff out everywhere I stop! :rotfl:
Am here for another week and then I am off back up country - again staying with friends - to go to my Writer's Group and then to a Rock Concert and to attend my son's Beer Festival in the NN cafe in Northampton on the 11th and 12th of the month!! Phew! Then back here!
Hopefully by then the other house will be sold and I can get into the chaos of unpacking and fitting everything into the smaller place!
Nite all am running out of power on laptop!!Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)

I would like to join this thread. I have been following for a while. I know I probably won't post daily but will try.
Yesterday I minimized some rubbish from the cupboard under the stairs and listed some items on ebay. I have been meaning to list for ages.
I mended my cold frame. It only involved finding a screwdriver of the correct size and replacing the wooden strut that keeps the lid up but it's now done.
Made do by using an assortment of flours to make a crumble. They had been sitting in the cupboard for a while with only a tiny amount in each bag. The crumble tasted good.0 -
Welcome to the gang Villagelife
post when you can to keep us up to date with your progress (or in my case -lack of it!)
Lyn - I'm imagining you with all your possessions in a red spotted hankie over your shoulder as you wander from place to place. Enjoy your time house sitting for your friend and hope the house issue is sorted very soon.
Busy day today - my DiL is involved with Ben Ainsley and we've been invited to an open day so I'm hoping to get a good look at his boat & then we're going to a local wine bar for a friend's birthday. The only minimising today looks like food and alcohol! I think I can make do with that!
Have a good day all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Morning all
Minimised a load of stuff to the CS this morning-7black bags full and a big wicker rocking chair. Still trying to work out how come my house is still crammed to the gills with 'stuff' I'm working through it on the kondo thread.
Going to minimise some weeds and excess lawn length at mils now when we drop her shopping off.
Dh is going to mend a drawer for me I popped the bottom out pushing too much stuff in it.
Hoping to get some cross stitch finished or at least a bit more done later, it's been a wip for too long.
Have a good day all.SPC~12 ot 124

Back from holiday to lots of washing and a garden full of triffid like weeds.
Third load of washing on the go, the rest is on the line, so minimising the washing pile. Then this afternoon I will be minimising weeds from the garden
The long journey back from Cornwall yesterday means I am just a few rows from finishing OH's jumper, so I want to get that done this evening if possible. That's my mending.
I only spent money on trips out while we were away, and the souvenirs I have brought home are the memories we made.
Making do with leftovers from the freezer for lunch today, and I am trying to put off shopping until tomorrow
S X£400,000 starting Jan 2020 current end date Aug 2041 I would love the end date to be 2027 but will aim first for 2037.
1% target £4000 so far £20 paid0 -
Good Afternoon to some of the most wonderful people I have read about.
This thread will be my 'pick-me-up'. You show great fortitude and a love of life I sometimes miss.
I have been devouring your posts all half-term to catch up.
You have inspired me to:
- Put up proper shelves in the craft room thus transferring a bit of wardrobe into the shed for storage and the too-small book case into my bro's room tidying his room a bit.
- sort craft room so i can see all my stuff. Now must use it not buy more!
- Do some batch cooking for my lunches for the rest of term to go with my bought rice pots and packets (UB's rice packets do two meals, i pot them up and fridge, then ping them for 2mins, and butter and cheese).15 lots of mac and cheese, 7 lots of minced beef.
- continue to work on a crochet jumper for autumn
- freeze undecorated fairycakes on next cooking day for instant sponge puds.
- clear out some of the books I haven't read for 15years.
- twice go to sinsbins and only buy what i went in for.
-Not cry if i dont get things done
So, i minimised books,
will make do without buying any more lunched until the summer hols (got enough when on offer with the batches)
Mended the horror that was the craft room.
Any suggestions (not quilts) for about a tonne of slightly skinny fat quarters?
Re gf cooking, my baking is as before, just use doves farm flour. Yorkies are with df gf sr flour and no standing. Bread is a disaster, but going to try the flat bread. I love to cook when i am on school hols and awakeMad teaching cat woman trying to be more frugal and fun0 -
Hi all.
Would love to join the thread. I have been reading for inspiration.
We have just had the keys to our new house and are doing some work before 'moving in.
A bit of restoring going on, floorboards and tiles uncovered and being brought back to life.
Some making do going on too. We have recently had our income halved (hopefully temporarily) so we need to tighten our belts a bit.
We need to get back to our old style, money saving ways, we had become very lapse about it.
We are currently reducing the stockpile from the pantry and freezer and the allotment is looking ok, hopefully this will provide some lovely fruit and veg over the year.
We have also started to reduce the clutter, did a CS run today. another planned for tomorrow. Some items listed on freegle too.
Need to get round to listing on Eb*y now.
I will be visiting regularly .for tips and motivation.🎄PAYDBXMAS21 #11 £11,300/£11300
