Not Buying It- A Consumer Holiday 2016

I went into Debenh@ms yesterday with DGS looking at the 70% reductions, I was looking for his next size snow suit. We'd previously got one at 70% reduction last January. But there's not this year at a good price, the one he's wearing was less than second hand price £7.80 with the 70% off.
Well they had a t shirt I'd seen online £2.40 from £8 it's got a lovely dinosaur on and it says "I am 4" which I wanted to get him for his birthday. Buying in advance its not until the end of September. I then saw 2 more which I carried around for about 15mins whilst still looking for snow suits. I then put the other said 2 t shirts back and just bought the "I am 4" one. That's a first for me where DGS is concerned. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0 -
Dd4y told the teacher that she had new pink boots 'from the shop!' The teacher just enjoyed the story, but I knew dd was telling it because we never go to a shop, especially not with kids. Clothes and shoes are stored in the attic, several sizes up, and sm shopping I do on my own. I take a list, but if something on the list is not available, I have to think of replacements, and I cannot do that with kids in tow. If I have to go shopping for other items, e.g. my clothes (it happens....) or household stuff, I also go on my own, in order to run in and out the required shops. The moment I have to slow down, I want to scream, throw things, and run home.
Thought I was the only one who prefers to shop alone! I really struggle to concentrate in the shops and with two young children in tow, it's impossible! I don't understand the people who take their entire family with them, and often really late at night when the kids should really be in bed too. One of us goes at night, while the lucky one gets to stay at home and babysit - I usually try make DH go as I find the SM really stressful.
My kids have mostly had hand-me-downs for clothes so a trip to buy stuff from shop is also a massive treat for them too - although I have started to get some of their clothes online, and that's quite handy, e.g. they both needed new trainers as old ones far too small. Could have got cheapy SM ones but Schuh had sale with much better quality trainers at very nearly same price as SM ones, so I put the filters on for 'max price' and showed the kids what came up -they chose their own from the list on offer, and because I had applied the price filters, they couldn't see and so weren't asking for things that were too expensive. That was a revelation and will def be a strategy in the future - no dragging them round the shop and trying to make them (and myself) concentrate, and no distractions from other things we don't need....0 -

it's worth checking often for free eBooks on amazon - ones that are now out of copyright are usually free (unless you want the edition with added footnotes/introduction by someone else) - I got the entire Sherlock Holmes set last year as soon as they were out of copyright! Also all the Brontes, Jane Austin etc, Robert Louis Stevenson etc all free.0 -
Just nearly checked out a basket of clothes online. No one need clothes. I was close to buying dd age five a new coat as shed love a parka, but it's stupid as she has a gorgeous, waterproof fleece lined coat that I bought three months ago!! I am not buying it!!!!!!!
Decided that whenever I am about to buy something I will come on here first it will probably put me off!!
I'm a sucker for over spending. Like my dd has a friends birthday party at weekend. I bought said friend a lively usborne sticker book. Why do I feel the urge to buy more it's lovely and it's plenty.
Must make sure I log on here more!!0 -

I was just the same when my son was young. Avoiding shops certainly made it easier to budget.
I really don't like shopping nowadays with anybody else apart from my husband. I loathe shopping with friends and family! It makes me realise what a shopping light weight I am! I recently spent almost an entire day shopping with my mum and sister (mum's birthday treat was a day out to a posh town). Oh the hours we spent looking at what felt like every single item in the shop. Too exhausting for words!
I particularly loathe clothes shopping! Always have and always will, If I could have a set of clean overalls delivered daily to my house I would wear those. Fashion is one area in which I am never tempted to spend too much! I'm sure however that my friends all secretly wish they could give me a makeover so that they could 'defleece' and girlify me.
I like my clothes cheap, comfy and practical and I'm sure I'm a fashion and beauty retailer's nightmare!Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000 -

Sadly I will as both Dds have been 'snipped' Eldest decided when she was 35 that she din't want nay more children having one of each was all she wanted and youngest was 41 when she had to have an emergency hysterectomy.(but she has five gorgeous children) I am quite looking forward, fingers crossed, to at some point being made a Gt Grandma, I was a Granny at 43 so its highly possible
My Mum was a late Mum as well ,marrying at 35 having my eldest brother at 37,my middle brother at 41 and myself at 45.;)0 -

I've been realising that "SHOPPING" has been sold to us, as an entertainment. One look at any child's face as you pass them on a shopping trip is enough to tell me that this is a lie. When politicians have included in speeches reference to shopping being virtually our patriotic duty, you know a bubble is either bursting or slowly imploding.
I admit it, shopping does entertain me, but for all the reasons a psychologist would point out; that buzz, the instant gratification, and the feelings associated with aquisition. Not exactly a list of life skills I want to have in order to be happy.0
