Not Buying It- A Consumer Holiday 2016

I don't like shoe shopping either,
But have found it marginally more tolerable since I started using TK maximums. Generally good quality shoes for reasonable prices. My hotter boots came fm there and were only £22 :T
Hate clothes shopping too- why do the changing room mirrors make you look so awful? All of them. You'd think that it would be in their interests to make you look good, then you'd buy the clothes.
Returned one of the unsuitable pairs of trews today, bought nothing :TI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi all
Went into town yesterday to get my hair cut (needed it) I did go into B**ts for the 70% sale but thought most of it carp so left without buying a thing
Then didnt even wander into another shop as couldnt even be bothered as I am not buying it so whats the point
Came home early and walked the dog round the lake instead much nicer and free
Sorry retailers you couldnt temp me better luck next time :rotfl:

I nipped into boots today too, for essentials, and thought I'd have look while I was there at the 70% off stuff but guess I was a day too late, as they had only a couple of really rubbish items left and staff were stocking the shelves with all the sun cream/sunglasses etc. Because I'm guessing the middle of a deep dark January when it's blimmin freezing is the best time to buy sun cream and sunglasses!
Was disappointed on the one hand but glad on the other as it meant I did Not Buy It! Last year I was there first thing on the first day of the 70% off day, to pick up some wrapping paper, and was shocked to see people with trolleys (it's a big boots) stacked high with tons of gift sets! by my calculations, with the few paltry sets left today (yardley and minions!) even at 70% off I still thought it was a bit steep for the items you got.0 -
I bought hot cross buns today (YS) and there's also valentine carp in the shops already. Stop the world, I wanna get off.:rotfl:

I am not a shopper at all, I have a very low boredom threshold when it comes to shopping. I dislike clothes shopping and especially shoe shopping.
At the moment I'm wearing a pair of flat Pavers shoes that my eldest DD donated to me as she said she hardly wore them, they are made of very soft leather and are very comfortable.
I have a good pair of Sketchers trainers that I bought last year on holiday, they cost around £49. The previous pair lasted me around 6 years and they are very comfortable to wear.I have to have happy feet or I get quite grumpy:):)
My days of wearing high heeled strappy sandles are over ,even though they were my favourite shoes of choice, but walking with a stick and impaired mobility/old age put paid to that unfortunately:)
So far this month I have been for a food shop twice, and have more than enough to keep me going in stock for quite awhile.
I am definitely not a fashon plate and am built for comfort. To those who wish to chuck their cash at clothes good luck to them, but I am happily not one of them,as long as I am clean, warm and tidy I am quite happy with that:)

I've always wondered why they don't have nice flattering mirrors. They are missing a massive marketing ploy. 😀0 -
My mother and sister are both 'hobby shoppers'. I don't judge their choices - they can comfortably afford it and if they are happy, then I am happy. It is probably just as well I don't share their enjoyment, since I have considerably less money than they do, but when I visit them they always want to take me shopping because they think it is a treat. I feel a bit alienated at times because I just don't enjoy an activity they take so much pleasure in, and actually find it pretty stressful. When they want to 'treat' me it feels wrong to spend other peoples' money on things that I wouldn't buy using my own, but I don't like to hurt their feelings by refusing either.0

Late on parade ho hum! Day 14/366 NSD. Excitingly though the bobbins for my old Singer machine have arrived. Now need to work out how to thread the thing and then use it. No electricity used and it should be perfect for the little bits of basic sewing I do. The "plan" [no promises] is to have a go at making some pillow cases from a flat sheet I've cut up and put to good use some of the pieces of lace I've acquired over the years.

If I was rich, I'd have my shoes handmade to my specifications. Don't give a t0ss about designer nonsense, but proper footwear would be blissful.
I'm so with you there GreyQueen. Forget the round the world cruises etc, top of my bucket list should I ever be lucky enough to win the lottery would be tailor-made shoes.
I didn't really wear shoes for the first 5 years of my life ( born abroad in much warmer climes ) and when I did live in the UK when I was 5 we lived in Dorset. The start of the school year was always marked by a trip to the Cl@rk's factory shop for a pair of all leather school shoes that came in G and H widths which I needed (wide feet with high instep and most of my toes are the same length and they spread out so can't do even slightly pointy shoes)
I'm a dumpy 5ft 2in so I can appreciate what you say NurseMaggie about clothing fit.
Capri pants, which I usually end up wearing, make me look like a Hobbit (to go with my hobbit like feet - no hair on them though), but they don't need any work done on them. Standard 'short' length trousers are usually half an inch to an inch too short while the 'regular' length ones are about 3 inches too long! Skirts would solve the problem but they aren't really practical working on a farm :rotfl:
Something tells me I really should get around to making my own clothes but I really don't have the time at the moment (I crochet, spin, preserve food etc. along with running the smallholding on my own) . Maybe in the next phase of my life

I am 5ft 2" as well and trousers are a nightmare. I have exactly the same problem with the short and standard lengths. I find shorts a real problem too as somehow the proportions are always wrong and I end up looking like Jimmy Kranky with bosoms!
Well I'm feeling as though I may have had a breakthrough! My fridge is just about empty. All of the fruit, vegetables, yoghurt and cheese are used up! It was beginning to look a bit worryingly empty at the beginning of the week but I resisted the temptation to go and do a top up at the shops. And guess what? nobody has gone down with scurvy or complained about the service!
I am very thrifty in many ways but I have this thing about needing to have a full pantry! I generally notice that we are running a bit low on the fresh stuff. Make a trip to the supermarket to buy what I need but then come home with a pile of BOGOFs and bargains and often treats that we shouldn't be having.
I rarely throw food away but we often end up eating more than we need because we are using stuff up! My cupboards are crammed. I have two full freezers but I seem to cater almost exclusively from the contents of the fridge.
I think for me going less often to the shops will help me to buy less for the store cupboards and in addition to use up the current food mountain. I seem to find some security in a full pantry but I was reading somewhere that you should look at the contents of your cupboards and add up the value of what is in there.I must have hundreds of pounds worth of food in store. It is money that is dead and invested in food items that are degrading as they sit there. I don't live in the middle of nowhere. I have a plethora of shops on my doorstep. I will cut down my food mountain in 2016!Stashbusting 2019 - 230/3000 -
chirpycheap try imagining you only have one tiny cupboard for food and a small fridge. Now do an inventory of all the food you have. Write out a list of meals to use it all up and don't buy anything until you have to.
JackieO can help as she is very good at managing on nothing. Take a list don't buy anything that is not on it unless it is a real bargain and you know you will use it up fairly soon.
I think it is a good idea to add up what it is all worth when you do your inventory. As long as you have four or five days food you really don't need any more SM only close 2 days a year.0
